Don't knock Brighton- my local side- Good community team, very liberal, tolerant open minded city- and been through a lot with bad owners and come out the other side- Plus it voted remain. As far away from Burnley as you can imagine.

That said- leave Armstrong alone.

Brighton are a bigger club than Burnley, with more affluent fans.
TV money will see them safe in the top flight for years to come.
Seriously? The affluence of fans is a determinant in staying the EPL? Brighton are bigger than Burnley?

Brighton is twice the size of Burnley and has no competitor clubs within 40 miles (palace are their derby rivals ffs!). In the same radius, Burnley have Manchester, Leeds, Preston, Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan, Bradford, Huddersfield, Blackpool and almost Liverpool and Sheffield.
Average attendance this year: Brighton - 28,000; Burnley - 20,500.
Seasons spent on top league? Bet you Burnley win that hands down.
Domestic honours? Bet you Burnley win that hands down too.

I have no interest in either team but you're comparing apples and oranges.

#Pedantrycsc

PS: someone told me statistically Burnley are the best supported club in the U.K. attracting over 25% of the local population to games and over 50% to Wembley.
They've more fans, and can afford to charge more for tickets as their fans are fairly wealthy.

They'll be spending more than Burnley.

Brighton   none of our top players are heading to shampooe sides like that. Rodgers has made it be known we will only sell for the fees we set. You are talking £20mill for Armstrong at the moment and if he leaves will be heading to a top 6 side in any of the top leagues. Gone are the days of selling players with CL experience for relative pennies. Van Dijk and Wanyama are the proof that we are developing top European class talents. That was before Rodgers as well.

Brighton ffs. Cifci and GMS are more realistic targets for them if they want a Celt. G

Calm down, much improved though he is, top teams in top leagues are unlikely to be chasing him. As with Wanyama and VVD he'd likely need a lesser club to prove himself before a bigger club came calling. Such is life, as DU couldn't give him the experience and exposure we can.

If he doesn't sign an extension this Summer though, we've a decision to make. :hmmm: Another good season, with CL exposure sees his value increase, while clock ticking on contract sees it decrease. I'd keep but could understand letting him go for the right offer (if he isn't extending).

I get the point about Brighton being a small club but unfortunately if they wanted they could afford the twenty million you quote. After beating Barcelona and making the last 16 we lost 'top' players to Norwich and Southampton. The disparity between our money and EPL money has got even wider since then.

I hope Armstrong signs a new contract and stays - it will be better for him and for Celtic. However if he doesn't sign a new contract with a year to go I suspect we will sell.

I'd be very surprised if Armstrong went yet. Quite sure he'll want his opportunity in England, but he'll realise that another season or two at Celtic - particularly working under Brendan Rodgers - could help his career hugely.

He has made massive progress in all aspects of the game but at the moment he wouldn't get near a place with the top European sides. That's not meant as a put down btw..

It's become a cliche but he would be a great signing for a German side.

Had a wee pop on Rahman Bawbag's programme about being stuck out as a left winger last season.
But 75% of KDS were telling us at the start of the season that left side (always there for UTD dontcha know!) was his position. :ponder:

It's an exaggeration yes, but a number of people simply wouldn't accept playing him centrally would improve his performances.

Anyone who did was shot down with the Dundee Utd line.

Anyone with a decent knowledge of Football could see that Stuart was a talented player, but he seemed to lack confidence and belief in himself to play at Celtic, and playing wide didn't help that. But, Brendan has instilled that belief and confidence in him and also added a tougher edge to his game that he required to play in Central Midfield.

Armstrong is a prime example of a player who could quite easily had a career of mediocrity without the guidance and management of a top coach like Brendan.

Totally agree about your last point. Last season he looked like he couldn't handle it and was destined to be the type of player that would be a main man for Aberdeen or similar after a stint in English lower leagues.

He has thrived under Brendan and looks like a totally different player - my suspicion is that he sees his long term future down in England but I hope he signs an extension just now.

He's been integral to the team this year but if he's not gonna sign he should be punted for as much as we can get.
