Agree on first choice. Think Bitton will get nod ahead of McGregor tomo.

My point is that my main motivation wouldn't be to play Armstrong in midfield to lessen the likelihood of McGregor or Bitton starting. I know virtually nothing about Aitchison so I don't assume anything about him.

An effective centreforward is very important to our game plan. If Aitchison, Sinclair or Roberts can't perform to the necessary level (and maybe they can) then I think Armstrong could maybe do a job and I wouldn't rule him out just because his place in midfield would be taken by a player who is rated less by the fans than by the manager.

Petrov did partner Larsson and our system is quite different now. I think that's why it's more important that we get it right

Too late to recall Ciftci? :ph43r:
Played 80 minutes today mate so he'll be tired.

Or we do what we did last time we were without both strikers, and play Roberts.

Fabregas wasn't a first pick in midfield, so he wasn't getting shunted forward from there.
I think he's more likely to do that or give Aitchison a chance and I take on board Bobby Peru's point.

Losing both Griffiths and Dembele is a problem tho. Neither Sinclair nor Roberts have excelled when played through the middle and it's not their natural position so if we have to think up another alternative then I'd throw Armstrong into the mix in the same way MON did with Petrov when Sutton, Hartson and Maloney were injured
Last time Griffiths and Dembele were injured we gubbed Hearts 4-0. Sinclair scored 2 and Roberts scored 1. Aitchison was a sub. I'll be surprised If Sinclair, Roberts or Forrest are dropped to start with the boy.

All true. However, we struggled to break them down for first hour. We also struggled in next couple of games until Dembele came off bench against st Johnstone.

Also true. To be fair though, we've had a few games where we struggled to break teams down even with Dembele and Griffiths on the pitch.

I like Aitchison and I won't complain if he does start. I just think Rodgers may opt for experience and stick with the players he has trusted this season. I'd give Sinclair, Forrest and Roberts a hour then stick the boy on if we need a goal.

Back to Armstrong. He's 8/1 fgs today and I'm having some of that.

People talk about the circularity of BR winning league at tynecastle where he managed first league game.

Armstrong started that match (having had a decent pre-season) and was really ineffective. Looked just as lost as he did frequently last season. He cut a really frustrated and forlorn figure. Delighted that he will be going back there today in a very different emotional place

Another really good goal today. Maybe not at his best but having a midfielder who can make telling contributions is such a bonus. Easily the most improved player this season.

Brendan had quite a long chat with him on the pitch, hopefully tuning him into signing a new deal.
I know he spoke to everyone,, but seemed to chat longer with Stuart.

Watched Reporting Scotland earlier. Nosferatu mentioned something about that vile, morbidly obese, mass of no f*cking talent Corden being on the twitters this week, wanting Stuart at West Ham :suspect:

The contract needs sorted asap. I think he woulf be mad not to sign a new deal. With BR at the helm for another few years, he is in the right place. His big move will come but for me he still has a year or two of delivering regularly.

Another CL campaign will help.

Disagree with this. Wasn't great today, but think he gives us a better option from deep, and this is amplified when Rogic is in there.
