Really do think he's a good footballer and can be an asset to us. But he's been pish for a while.
Anthony Stokes is a better footballer than either Armstrong or GMS. Can't believe how these guys are getting game time, they've been pish for ages now!
They were excellent last season and Stokes was rightly dropped. As it is I'd have Stokes ahead of either of them. Armstrong is playing like Stokes, waiting for Izzy to overlap and laying the ball off to him or cutting inside and hitting some woeful shots. Shouldn't be anywhere near our starting 11 atm.

Performances have dropped off the end of a cliff - just like his pal GMS.

Truly woeful yesterday.

I've seen Stokes have better games for us than Armstrong. Armstrong has been average at best all season. When Stokes was playing that role last season he was scoring and making goals, Armstrong doing neither this season.

I like Stokes and regularly made a case for him when others were running him down at every opportunity. He is not a better footballer than Armstrong though.

He is way off form and should be dropped as he has done next to nothing this season.

I also don't think the kid is not suited to the wide left role. I see him more as a central midfielder but he is not good enough to get ahead of Brown, Bitton or Johansen.

Really? On current form, Johansen and Armstrong are as bad as each other. I'd at least give Armstrong a couple of games in that position.

Not seen a lot of evidence yet that Armstrong is a better footballer than Stokes -he is more athletic certainly but Tony has had plenty of moments of great skill and scored plenty of great goals for us.
Armstrong has done little in the hoops so far - he hopefully has time on his side.

Of course with his pace and experience of playing in the middle of the park Armstrong should be far better in the wide role than Stokes unfortunately his current performances don't back that up.

Armstrong has been at the club for less than a year but is playing in a role which he should be comfortable in - his recent games have been shocking -he now looks scared to do anything - probably because nothing has come off for him for some time.

He is not currently capable of playing the role.

Maybe Ajax will bring something out in him - Inter Milan at home did.

I'll take your point in regards to current form, although I think the chances of Armstrong getting a run in the centre are slim barring injuries.

Terrible yesterday, but at least he doesn't hide when he's having a bad day so willing to give him a bit of time. His buddy GMS appears to be awful and I fail to see what anyone ever saw in our other United import who can't score, can't beat a man, has no pace, has a first touch like an elephant and can't head the ball.

He doesn't have the pace to beat someone out wide, he has the skill to beat someone one on one but that's only when he gets to byline or outside the box
I feel he's wasted playing wide and would be better suited to playing behind the striker but we have others playing there.

It feels as if he being played there purely so he's in the team as opposed to playing there cause he's doing well

Is it a case of Ronny cutting off his nose to spite his face playing him there over stokes?

Never a wide player in his life but that's where the manager picks him - go figure!
Should have been playing in Rogic's position yesterday - since Rogic had been around the world in 8 days but Ronnie knows best!

Seems like Stokes may be the latest beneficiary of the "gets better with every game he doesn't play" nostalgia effect. Having said that, he was never as bad as some of his critics in the support would have you believe either.

Armstrong was a very effective player when he joined us last season....he now looks like his confidence is shot for some reason. We know he's capable of doing a job for us.
The club isn't rich enough to discard players because of a loss of form (few clubs are TBH), so we have to preserve with the likes of Armstrong and try to get them out of their slump.

He is and he's shown that over 7 or 8 seasons in Scottish football. Armstrong has had good spells but has never been better than Stokes at his best. Stokes was even better wide left last season than Armstrong currently is.

People saying he's being played out of position, where did he play for DU?
