He'll play 90 minutes tonight. Pray for Japan to hold/beat the Saudis in Saudi Arabia tonight, or Tam may be away for four more far flung qualifiers to such tasty destinations as Uzbekistan and Costa Rica/Honduras.

I know why people worry about this but I would love to see the big man strut his stuff at a World Cup.

Those 4 extra games look more likely now. Australia 1 - 1 Thailand.

We qualify automatically if we can score in the next 8 minutes and the Saudi/Japan thing works out as above.

Unbelievable result. Thirty plus shots on goal. Love Tommy but I don't think he played well tonight.

Thought he did well but some of his passing was quite slack. Was unlucky not to score at least one.

Doesn't help when he's trying to hold off three players and his teammates are standing watching him.

He definitely got no support against Japan but tonight I think he thought he could just walz through the Thai defence. Some of his decision making was really poor. Certainly not alone in that but I'm just used to him being untouchable.

Bang on - they were double and triple teaming him and the rest of them were just sitting around and watching him get hacked - nobody giving him an option or trying to dig him out of trouble.

Having said that, it wasn't one of his better games, that's true. Unlucky not to score, though. Geeze it was painful to watch.

5 and 10 October his next matches - Venues TBC. Syria have been playing their home matches in Malaysia recently, and FFA haven't determined where to have their home fixture, but I imagine it'll be on the eastern seaboard.

Apparently the Europe-based players were on flights back immediately after the match.

How good is Syria???

The Ozzies haven't had a great campaign, so will have to buck up their ideas or no World Cup next year (bummer if that happens)

On the contrary, what with everything that has happened in Syria these past 5 years I sincerely hope they make it to the World Cup

Does tom have a bad first touch?

Having an arguement here and some one is saying it is awful.

I always thought it was his best ability. His touch always seems to take him into space rather than just standing still.

Am i being biased
Hopper used to do the same thing. They aren't controlling the ball with their first touch, they're trying to beat a man or move into space. Sometimes it doesn't work and it ends up looking like a shampooe control.
This.

Sometimes you wonder if internet critics have ever actually played a game of football.

The 'beating a man with your first touch' is hard as eff, and does look sloppy to the untrained eye :i_say:

Not if you lived in Australia, may not quite see the virtue in Syria beating the Socceroos

Surprised this hasn't been bumped. We were so much better after he came on and he actually got us into dangerous positions. Ferocious shot compared to Ntcham's effort then while he probably should have tried again his pass for Forrest could have been awesome but the wee man enver saw it coming.

Think he should be starting the big games over Armstrong after both of their performances.

easy to say with hindsight, but if we're playing one "luxury" player – Him or Roberts – against top sides in the CL, it should be Tam. As showed second half the other night, and against City at home, he's really vital for building attacks with his strength and vision in that central role.

One of the most frustrating things about Tuesday 1st half, was when we did win the ball, we didn't build anything. The ball either went to Sinclair or Paddy on the halfway line and they were expected to beat two or three players.

I thought he was utterly rotten the other night, armstrong froze and did nothing but rogic played the wrong pass just about every single time he got it. A couple of situations we were building something he gave it away in criminal positions, also did a woeful job of helping roberts.

Second half was better overall but it had nowt to do with him, but the guys above me seem to have seen different.

Yeah, I think it was more a case of PSG having a bit of break for 25mins before they stepped it up again. Even in 3rd gear that mob kept us at bay.
