Good to see he was more excited when he scored the winner for us.

Also, wasn't there an australian #10 who played in switzerland for a while that was prettygood? Or was that Bresciano? Feel like i remember watching an aussie we were linked with play when my aunt was living in zurich.
Scott Chipperfield was at Basel for years. He was a left sided player. Was a bus driver when he was still part time in Australia!

yeah that was weird, I was at the game. the saudi players got in their positions as if the game was kicking off when the minutes silence started, some were doing little warm up exercises through it.Surely they knew a minutes silence was planned?

Got an interesting insight into our Tam yesterday, from someone who would know.

He suffers from a thing called Short Term Fatigue, which seemingly can hit at any time. This explains why sometimes Rogic looks out on his feet before a ball is kicked, yet is prone to scoring last minute wonder goals. Basically, he can recover from this in a short period of time, and while it can happen at any point in the game, he'll be allowed to recover from it if it strikes early, but may be subbed if it happens towards the end of the game, as his ability to fully recover may be governed by time remaining.
It's just another indication of how deep into the issues of our first team the current management/ fitness guys delve to maximise our potential.

It wasn't weird, it was effing outrageous.

These twats should be suspended for this, but like most things when it comes to Saudi Arabia, money talks and nothing will happen.

That's the exact one. Pretty sure we were linked with him for a season or two.

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/tom-rogic-should-be-the-face-of-the-game-in-australia-20170609-gwnyzc.html

Interesting article in the SMH re Rogic becoming the new star for the Socceroos. There's been a fair amount of coverage locally re his season and of course the Scottish Cup.

Quote:

Fact is, the Socceroos haven't sold out any major venues since the 2015 Asian Cup. There's been plenty of introspection, but perhaps it comes down to something as obvious, and simple, as this: the time has come to create a new star.

The challenge is to choose the right player, and then to properly promote him. On the latter, FFA's unwillingness to put money and resources into marketing has to stop. On the former, who?

Three candidates stand out. Mat Ryan, Aaron Mooy and Tom Rogic. Ryan, especially if he moves to the EPL, has credible claims but rarely do goalkeepers become poster boys. Mooy has the talent, but not the personality. Which leaves Rogic.

Rogic ticks all the boxes to become the next Socceroos star. He had a taste of stardom as a teenager when he won the Nike talent quest, and didn't particularly enjoy it. But time has moved on, he's become more accustomed to the limelight since emerging at Celtic, and the word is he's matured as much as a person as a footballer. Soon to marry his childhood sweetheart, Rogic is poised to hit the big time at a stage of his life and career when he's better equipped to handle the pressure.

The Socceroos need a new Harry Kewell, or Tim Cahill, or Mark Viduka. Badly. Much as Postecoglou is an outstanding public presence, he's not a player. Rogic is, and an exceptional one at that. The man to get the turnstiles moving again? Why not?

FIFA's unwillingness to put money into marketing? :ponder:
