Radio Shortbread - Barry (8) asked how he'd respond to Chris Sutton's comments on Warbs and says he'd cite Sutton's own poor record when in charge of Lincoln.

Messrs Speirs and Wilson agree

Barry then says that Warbs will come through this as he has Davie Weir at his side - Messrs Speirs and Wilson again agree

No mention, of course, about Weary's own dreadful record at Sheffield Utd

The talk eventually moves on to the dismissal of Alex Rae and surprise surprise all three are in agreement that it's extremely harsh and what do such clubs expect

Alex Rae was sacked ?

Shame.

Still it's the right side of Halloween for Rae to get a couple of gigs :)

Did you just hear the permarage when shug said Warbuton was from a different country? "Naw hes fae britain, right! It's wan island!" :loel:
Hun Caller - "He was from a different country!"

Hun Caller 15 seconds later "When did a mention country?!"

'a didnae mention country'
What he really meant to say was he was catholic :)

Thought the Sutton bashing was right out of order. BFDJ slaughtering his record at Lincoln saying he would take that sort of stuff from Souness who has been there and done it in management, yet I never heard any of them say the same when everyone on the show was having a go at Ronny last season or even the season before as soon as he walked in the door. Double standards when it comes to the hun management, not that its not expected.

They can bring up suttons record at Lincoln if they like - he is not comparing warbs to him as a manger

He's played at the highest level and has league winners medals north and south of the border and excelled in Europe and slayed the orcs for good measure

He can give his opinion on how a manager is doing! The logical conclusion to this is only former managers can comment on how a manage is doing and for it to be credible - it can only be a successful manager - former midfielders cannot comment on defenders or goalies and only forwards can have any input when discussing forwards

It's that ridiculous

Shame for David Farrell though. Anyone who has read his book would be rooting for him to make a go of it.

It also largely undermines the existence of the show which is made up entirely of non-managers or unsuccessful managers.

Did I hear right?...Hun on Clyde moaning about Ross County keeper time wasting. "He had 20 bye kicks and took a minute at each of them without the ref pulling him up....all in the first 5 minutes."... :cuckoo:

David has a book?
Yes. 'Taxi for Farrell'. A decent read, pulls back the curtain a bit on what it's like to be a journeyman pro, but his genuine love of the game comes across too.

 Not being cheeky but was it in colour? Ive always wondered about the TV coverage back then.

I was born in 68 but have no memory of 74, my da assures me I watched the games on the couch with him, first world cup I really remember is 78 and wanting Argentina to win, my ma said "NAW! you want Holland to win cos we beat them and if they win then we're the real world champions"
It wasn't in colour in my house in 1970... but we were poor

Was definitely filmed and broadcast in colour though.....bith channels were broadcasting in colour by then

I'm now not convinced by the tune dating from 1970 having seen the subsequent post but I would have sworn that was the 1970 theme and ITV used it for more than one World Cup
Some games were definitely in colour in the 1970 world cup including the final.

We were poor too but the neighbours across the street from us had a colour tv.

We used to peek their windae until they shooed us away and shut their venetian blinds.

Perhaps someone should phone in and ask BFDJ how his stint as Patrick Thistle manager went...

Pretty hilarious them getting into a lather about Sutton saying the Sevco job is too big for the bread guy.

I recall the bold Shug saying much the same last year about Ronny Deila in the Celtic job.

"What i love about Warburton is the way he speaks with dignity and respect and knows how to say the right thing he reminds me of Walter. Thats what been the Rangers manager is about. Only a special breed of men are chosen for this magnificent role. "
