Wee bit closer to home: let's not forget the treatment Aiden and Lenny got on a consistent basis from opposing fans. Mind you Lenny's was for his aggressive style of play so that's OK then. ;)

Maybe someone on here can enlighten me on this - I've tried searching for the Scotland game that a Celtic player game on and scored with his 1st touch. He was signed from Partick Thistle and I'm sure he came on for a Rangers player.

I was in the Rangers end for this game and when the substitution was made it was met with lood boos when said Celtic player came on.

I am 51 now and reckon I would have been about 14/15yrs old then. When he scored I turned around to the guys who I knew had been booing and gave them verbal for jumping about after booing this player just minutes earlier.

I was a brave wee fecker then lol.

Hopefully someone can confirm the player for me.

I was also aware then of a shampoo load of Rangers scarfs being worn instead of Scotland scarfs.

Joe Craig scored with a header just after coming on. Not sure but think possibly against Sweden.

Is that not the quiz question ...Who scored for Scotland without ever kicking a ball for them?

Pretty sure he came on for Scotland scored with his first touch, game ended minutes later and was never capped again...mind you I could just be imagining it.. :cuckoo:

Murdo McLeod (after he left us) got dog's abuse at Ibrox for a Scotland-Germany match in 1993 I attended. One especially stupid Hun repeatedly shouted at him to get back to Borussia clearly believing that a town with that name existed!

Cheers for that - lol I was only 12 yrs old then and tougher than I thought.

Now - is my memory correct and he came on for a Rangers player?

ps Just checked there and it wasn't a Rangers player but Kenny Burns (Birmingham City) that he came on for, which makes their booing even worse as it was then purely because it was a Celtic player coming on.

Great goal Joe :-)

My brother in law took me to my first Scotland game when I was about 12 in a world cup qualifying tie against Austria in 1968. The Scotland team had a good few Celtic players in the team that night including Jinky, Tommy Gemmell, Billy McNeil, Yogi Hughes and Bobby Lennox with, I think, the bastard Grieg the only hun in the team. Anyway, I can vividly recall all the Celtic players being booed, especially wee Jinky and remember some of the sectarian type shouts from those around me. Even at a young age, I felt disgusted by what I was hearing. So BFDJ, once again, you are talking you're usual pish and lies :nono:

Well he's right as it was normally "fenian bastard" that was shouted.
'Gemmell's a b******' followed by a rendition of The Sash wasn't unusual at Scotland games at Hampdump in the late 60's

:(
My Grandfather told me a story along those lines..... That's why he never supported the Scotland team. The treatment of the Celtic players was a disgrace......

In those days very many huns fans went to Scotland games. Not so many now adays. I would say the bulk of Scotland fans are from supporters of clubs other than us and the huns. Or in the case of one or two guys I know support no club in particular
but go to every Scotland game, home and away.

Times have changed,.
