What ripped my knitting was him saying Brendan will leave for a big club. IMO there's only 2 or 3 the rest are just rich clubs not bigger

Yeah was spewing at that myself. The thing is if he was pressed on it that wouldn't be his train of thought.

Cheers gaffer
no bother mate, forgot the most important part, diehard Tim :rocker:
Andy is a top bhoy and his family are mad tims.

Very good player in the day and made mistakes he will freely admit.

His chat tonight was the reality of so called grass roots football and he plus a few others take time 5/6 times a week in estates few people roam to get kids off the street..its that blunt.

Spoke well tonight and could tell extremely pissed off at the scottish minister night before who i never heard. Andy is the reality of it and quite poignant that he said he is even feeding some of the kids that come now.

Would suit our SNP government to focus on the real issues of feeding families and providing something for young kids to do in relation to our national game. To busy calling summits and earning headlines of touch line arguments. :ffs:

Well done Andy.

Well done Andy.

He was bang on.

I didn't even know he was on the show to tonight. Ironically, I just had a conversation with my 9 year old who has just started going back to football. I was telling him only 5 mins before I listened to the radio that I could see that he had ability but if he didn't practise all the time he wouldn't get anywhere and that practising with the ball all the time is the only way he will improve. I told him I used to play from morning till night in any weather.

I went downstairs, stuck on the radio and Andy McLaren made the same point that it was all down to practice and the hours you put in yourself rather than the coaching.

He was spot on

Have to admit a littlegmbhoy wry smile when he was talking...he mentioned Milton Kenny Dalglish and Frank McAvennie, Maryhill Bertie Auld came from there...was talking about talent we miss from schemes he is in.

Then the players he idolised...Paul McStay.....Subtle but effective 👍

There's so many facets to the argument but facilities in Scotland are awful. I coach my sons '09 side and we're currently indoors on a Tuesday, outdoors on a Thursday, he attends a performance academy on a Friday and plays matches on a Saturday. The indoor facility is always a school gym hall, hard wood floor and concrete walls. Outdoors it'a a 1st or 2nd gen (I suspect) artificial pitch. Where are the indoor artificial pitches? How are kids meant to learn anything other than how to be freezing when outdoors?

But beneath that are the social issues as were pointed out. That kids are struggling to be fed isn't a new thing but I wonder if it's more widespread these days? Just awful.

I never heard the minster on Snyde the night or so ago but if she tows the line of her government and the so called people who run our game at Hampdump( by the sounds of it she did) then the car crash just goes on and on. No real quality players, no qualification and no future for national side and players of a decent standard coming through at all clubs in Scotland.

If families cannot afford to send kids to football which in these times is quite common then it is up to the government to hatch/come up with some plan to enable under privileged kids to have a chance at our national game. We are missing out on players from these housing schemes due to them not being able to afford to go. It’s a national tragedy especially in Glasgow and surrounding area’s -these were the breeding grounds for the vast majority of all our great players.

Just look at the Olympics and the medal winners ..huge portion have private school background and come from middle class families. I am happy for some sports to get funding/help but it seems so lopsided now and it is kids from middle class & financially strong backgrounds that mostly play these sports and have the opportunity to play them. Football is the most participated sport in our country and most popular. Its only right is should be affordable and have the most effort be kept alive and strong over others.

It’s nothing new so why not do a full review and then implement something that is law. Seems this is now seeping into football and probably is the biggest answer our game has declined. Other things have contributed but if children cannot afford to actually venture to football clubs, halls, astro pitches etc..because they have no money it is quite tragic. They need the most help.

sorry but that's a downright lie. he did spell it.

it took him 3 seconds longer to spell it than dalziel right enough.
Well they were giving him shampoo for not managing it next time he was on.
Definitely did say on the next show that Wilson failed to spell it. I didn't listen to the quiz one but heard them discussing it the next night.

but but but.....all of our heroes came from schemes with crap facilities,no? And the modern game ,choc full of lads from piss poor countries with equally crap or zero facilities. I think Scotland's kids suffer from mollycoddling and too many soft options. Play in the cold or play on the playstation? No brainer. We greet about home grown talent drying up but cant be arsed with discipline.

Heard the interview Andy Mclaren last night but was left with a feeling of hope and dismay
It is fantastic that people are willing to do this to help out the most impovershed and underprivelaged.

At the same time there almost seemed to be a harking back to 50's and 60s with poor kids playing 'street' football a solution to Scotlands lack of real elite talent.

There also seemd to be the undercurrent of using it to make a political point. He totally disagreed with the minister - on which points? Just all of them or are there more specif points that could be discussed. Kids not being able to afford food i Scotland is tragic. Free football for them whilst providing a welcome relief is not a solution to the real problem(poverty) and will probbly not help Scotland produce many players.
In stark contrast a few nights ago the problem was claimed to be kids don't play football they play computer games instead. Slimmed down Acadamies was the answer.

The wonderful work he was doing is merely dealing with the symptoms. It is not a solution per se.

Stated on here 2/3 months ago. Wilson is an imposter & not the blue eyed full back we thought we had. His lies to Matt Mcglone/Police about Ashton Lane & pressure they tried to put on him to change his story. Running about with Paul Paton & trying to weasel his way out of that situation.

His constant Unlce tim comments on Snyde & afraid to take anyone to task. His appearance on Level 5 website in favour of jabba and his company. His gig at Airdire with wan cell that has the hallmarks of Jabba all over it.

Not for me.

Seen the whole Jabba got him the job at Airdrie stuff on another thread a while ago.

What's the deal with this, I must have missed it the first time round?
