Peter Nicol was a better and more dominant squash player than Murray is a tennis player. I would also say that squash is more physically demanding than tennis.
Maybe but Peter Nicol is English so that's the end of that argument.
No he is Scottish but switched to represent England.

Two Olympic gold medals, world no 1, 2 Wimbledon, US Open, god knows how many ATP wins in the greatest era of his sport which is probably the second most physically demanding sport to participate in at the highest level besides Boxing.

Jocky Wilson
  Without a doubt.
he wasn't even a sportsman.

he used to have several pints during a match and his warm up was a couple a' hawfs
Heard a story years ago about a plumber who, after working on a job, was asked to wait in the front room while the owner got the money to pay him.

When the owner came back the plumber said "I see you're a big man for the darts". The owner was like "What do you mean?". The plumber said "Just the photo of Jocky Wilson on the mantlepiece there". The owner replied "That's my wife"

Exactly. He was Scottish then decided he was English. Once you've done that, you've done that.

No 1 for 60 months. 2 years on the trot. Murray won't get close to that.

When Murray is dominant in the major tournaments then I'll reconsider.

Won Wimbledon twice and US open once, ffs give over.

Any amount of footballers have a shout to be greatest Scottish sportsman ahead of him, even a cyclist, golfers and a few drivers to be considered also.
Two Olympic gold medals, world no 1, 2 Wimbledon, US Open, about 7 slam finals, Davis cup, god knows how many ATP wins in the greatest era of his sport which is probably the second most physically demanding sport to participate in at the highest level besides Boxing.

Agreed.

Lets not forget that in addition to all of the above the carrot is Scottish too.

Utterly miraculous.

These huns are so so bitter about Broony's potential return to Scotland squad. Lovely that their bitterness is manifesting itself in so many ways.

Not a very popular sport and doesn't tend to last as long at the top level. I know it can it doesn't tend to.

Still Murray for me. Chris Hoy is in there. It's Murray's range of achievement that does it for me.

No he represented England. The rules of a particular sport don't change your nationality. Folk with Irish grannies don't become Irish just because they play for a football team. The sport's governing body just allows you to represent them. Don't think Nicol claims he is English

Wouldn't disagree. Just pointing out there are arguments for others.

He choose England. Call me crazy but that gives him no right to be considered as Scotland's greatest sportsman. Which he still wouldn't have been if he stayed in Inverurie (am I remembering that right?) and played in blue all his days. Personal opinion, of course.

To achieve everything he has in an era with 3 of the greatest ever tennis players makes him streets ahead of every other Scottish Sportsman.
