Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Well, most of the time, aye. But the last two games he's been solid and reliable throughout the 90 minutes of each.
He had absolutely zero to do against Albion Rovers defensively so he cant be judged on that.

Against St Johnstone he was fine when he had time to play it sideways but had a lot of sclaffed clearances on his left side under pressure or a tendency to rush it onto his right and half clear it into a worse position. When Gamboa went off and he moved right he sat too deep and allowed St Johnstone the space between himself and Roberts. Better teams would punish us with him in the team. He might have all the tools but he cant read a game and at 26 he's as good as he'll get. I don't want him anywhere near playing in a European tie or even another Scottish Cup tie this season.
I disagree with your assessment of his performance but agree that he is a player who has many of the tools to be a good defender but just doesn't have the footballing brain or concentration levels. In many ways he is very much like Efe, both excellent athletes who can at times look great but switch off, make the wrong decisions that cause chances for the opposition.

If Rodgers thinks he can get something from Boyata, I trust him but happy to see him leave to free up wages / squad place for more reliable defenders.

The Sun had an article with him talking about how great Toure has been with him.

It was also interesting what he said about BR. Said manager told him clearly what he needed to do to get into team and when he did it he got his chance. He clearly has physical attributes including pace to be top defender. If BR can sort out his mind then we could have great defender.

If Rodgers can turn Boyata into an actual defender then I'll be taking down my portrait of myself in my hallway and putting up one of him.

You could combine the two and go for a Ben Carson/Jesus type portrait.

Boyata is a timebomb. No different to Ambrose. A few good games and then an inevitable colossal f-up. I wouldn't want to rely on this guy if the treble or the unbeaten record is on the line. I'd have loaned Boyata and kept O'Connell.

I've noticed him doing the same pointing gesture Gordon does when he has the ball at his feet to indicate where he wants his team mates to go for him to have the easy options in a passing triangle. That alone is a huge improvement in his previous games as he is at least aware of where his team mates are on the field now. It made me wonder if he's had similar coaching to Gordon on the passing side of his game

So who will be dropped , Jozo or Erik ? Not something I would welcome as I think this pairing is one of the best we have seen for a few years.

Boyata was very good the other night but i said before it would be harsh on either Sviatchenko or Simunovic if one was dropped for Boyata. Erik was a bit ropey at Ibrox but he has been pretty solid all season as has Jozo. Saying that another option does us no harm.

I agree with this. Erik and Jozo should be the starting partnership.

It's great to have competition for places throughout the side. Next change should be Roberts starting instead of Forrest. Only alarming thing about Boyata is the hair change means he no longer looks like Sidney Poitier in In The Heat Of The Night...

I think he's being put in the shop window, maybe with a few positive performances enticing a permanent deal rather than a loan. One thing with Boyata is that he is much better in the air than our other defenders, particularly from an attacking point. Good goal threat from set pieces.

I agree about strength in the air. He absolutely clattered Swanson when clearing his lines the other night. Great to see! Swanson didn't know what happened to him.

If he can time his runs for near-post headers then he may get the nod ahesd of Sviatchenko or Jozo.

He had the last ditch tackle after the boy hesitated and the header for the goal which we know he is more than capable of. Other than that he looked the same bomb scare of a player he always does. He's like Efe but without the heart.
absolute nonsense, sometimes folk just have to admit that a player or players they don,t like actually played well in a game

I disagree. He played very well.
