Even when he was weak defensively last season he was a threat from set pieces. I said it at the weekend but he looks up for it, born again hard, ready to eat the boogers out of a dead man's nose, then ask for seconds.

Played very well last night.

Still a long way to go before he stops giving me the fear.

Missed a couple of headers and got caught with a ball over the top in the first half. However much better overall, kept it simple when he had to, played a beautiful ball out to Gamboa in the first half, was a consistent threat at set pieces (33/1 thank you) and didn't look too uncomfortable when he shifted out to the right towards the end of the game.
It was great to see Rodgers having a wee moment with him after the game. We appear to have a manager that can motivate and knows the player, and the time to put his head round their shoulder.

As much as I love oor Erik, Boyata is potentially a class above him if he keeps improving.

Has Brendan Rodgers resurrected yet another player's Celtic career?
Hope so 👍 Also hope he stops there before he gets any ideas about Ambrose 😄

Hopefully there have been scouts at the last couple of games. We might be able to get a couple of million for him before Tuesday.

I think your Erik is a wee bit younger than Dedryck so it'd need to be exponential improvement.

Why are people mentioning Boyata at right back when we've got a guy who's won international tournaments at Right Back sitting in the stands? :naught:

Was impressed with the big man last night won a lot of aerial duals, and had a great header cleared off the line then raced back 80-90 yards and made a goal saving challenge at the other end in one move.

Looked assured in possession which isn't like him  kept the passing simple also liked seeing him giving Bitton a bit stuck for pulling out a tackle late in the game.

If rodgers can turn Boyata into a decent defender then I'll really start believing Brendan is actually God.

I've previously been scathing of him, I thought he was hopeless. I also couldn't shake the memory of him walking off behind the goal when he lost his man and cost us a goal, acting as if it was nothing to do with him.

However, over the last two games he's looked solid and dependable. Early days, of course, but there's enough to give me hope that Rodgers is working his magic on him.

Decent game last night and as he's always been was a threat from set plays.

He did get caught ball watching a few times and that seems to be his main flaw with the saints strikers getting in behind him on 2-3 occasions in the first half alone. He did then make a last ditch tackle using his pace to get back in time.

We as a support and especially on here seem to judge players far to quickly, whether this is media led or people playing to much champ man over the years and thinking 5-6 games is enough to make you a world beater or mince. Facts are some players need more time, some don't. Pace of the game, long balls in behind are big factors up here and need adjusted too for some.

Big lad isn't a bad player nor great but with his strength, pace and age give him the potential to good on to good things, whether at us or somewhere else. Also it's only within the last 18 months he was in the Belgian squad. arguably one of the best squad of players on the planet at this time.

I'm sure the next bad game he has though the usual will be out on here saying he's crap, not good enough etc when we all know that's not quite the case.

There was a guy in a Swansea jacket in the main stand, so you never know.....

The bold Efe, who'll probably end the season alongside Boyata in central defence while Simunovic and Sviatchenko watch on in awe at their weekly masterclasses in playing the position.

OK maybe not but this season I'm ruling nothing out.

I genuinely hope Boyata can kick on from here and perform like that on a regular basis for us

The big man goes up for corners to score goals. A lot of centre halves go up... do nothing and stoat back to their position. He goes up with intent and runs through bodies to get on the end of it.

If he can cut out the mistakes we know he has then he can be a very good player. Never thought I'd say that.
makes a big difference having someone to aim for at corners. boyata could have had a hattrick last night with his header cleared off line in first half and save he produced from the keeper right before his goal

It might sound cynical but he's came back from nowhere recently and my first thought was he's being put in the shop window.

I've always felt he was a decent enough defender, hes got pace and tackling ability (that's why he got a move to city when he was young),just his distribution was never great and he had a tendency to be a bit weak in the battle. I've tried to be patient with him on this thread,so hopefully its finally going to come good, because I doubt we can rely on simunovic totally all season and I'd much rather lustig played out on the right.
