He's young enough to get better but so far the centrebacks (Efe aside) have been quite good so it's hard to see him starting anytime soon without injuries. Would be interesting to see how well he copes with more freedom to pass at the back but it's important to note that the system will be more set up for that kind of thing, and players will be getting into those positions. He's probably our fastest centreback, also.

Can't see a player there, at-all, and at 25 years old, with such a minimal number of games played under his belt, i'd be for offloading him.
Pity he didn't at least make the Belgium squad, coulda stuck it on his CV when firing it round anybody daft enough to buy him.

There is definitely a player in there.

Unfortunately that player is utterly hopeless.

I am going to go against the grain here and say I am a fan of Boyata. I think he can be a good back up for us.
You should watch him when you haven't had all the wine. He is absolutely pish. The worst passer of a ball that I have ever seen in my life.

I think he deserves a chance under the instruction of BR. Still believe most of his mistakes last season came through being instructed to try and dribble/pass out of defence, getting into trouble using bloody Cruyff turns and the likes.

He turned in some solid performances when he played to his strengths, no nonsense, row z stuff. He is also probably our best/only goal threat from defence aswell.

Brendan is no mug, he will be able to assess if he worth holding on to or not. There are lots of precedents of players that looked hopeless in their first season but improved massively the next. I'm not a fan but he looked terrified last season playing in that dire side; working with BR and playing with Toure could really improve him.

I honestly don't think he is as bad a passer as people make out.

He is also a decent goal threat.

anyone suggested the holding midfield role for him..... :ponder: :ph43r:

This seems to be what people want to do with CBs

Punt. Never going to make it here. Jozo, O' Connell, Erik, Toure, Lustig & even Efe are all in front of him for CB. Will hinder McCart's progress as well.

He's very jittery on the ball, something you don't really want in your last line of defence
The keeper's your last line of defence
Now there's a guy who's jittery on the ball.

I've posted our defenders' passing stats before, and Boyata's pass completion % is actually very good (far better than Charlie Mulgrew's, for example).
We just all remember the one against Molde, which we wouldn't if Bitton had done his job and fouled the player breaking.

Not saying he has a future with us, just that the endless chat about his passing is a bit unfair.

The problem is the passes that don't succeed lead to lots of trouble.

Sviatchenko and Jozo have both scored in what little they played. Jozo in particular looked a threat with shots from distance, as well as set pieces.

The way the manager plays, he needs the centre halves to be able to play the ball. Not a hoofer.

Both Boyata and Ambrose are major liabilities and should be emptied, if we can get money for them.

Rodgers likes his defenders to play out from the back.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep

Boyata despite being jittery has not been at fault for many goals since he arrived. He's been fortunate at times but deserves to get himself fit before beig totally written off.

Too mamy on here quick to judge then when a player comes good all the pish that has been spouted is confined to history.

Janko and Brown being good examples.

His passing was abysmal last season.

Move him on. With Celtic & Man City on his CV some Championship mob would pay money for him.

Like pretty much everyone else in the squad, he is worth giving a few opportunities to. BR seems to have had a positive and galvanising effect on the place, if Boyata gets his chance and doesn't take it, then fair enough, but give him a go first.

Not fussed if we never see him playing in the hoops again. He's had some real howlers and seems prone to the Efe pattern of looking good & composed, then being a total disaster, then looking ok again, all in the same game.

That said, if BR thinks there's a player somewhere in there and wants to give him a shot, go for it. We'll need CB cover even when and if Sviatchenko and Simunovic are both fit.
