we are replacing a 19 year old that we haven't a hope in hell of buying, with a 24 year old that we can buy....from man city....which is worrying in itself, unless its a Guidetti type deal....which is even more worrying

Boyata and Wilson next year then?

I remember an article a few years back that hinted we would become a premier league teams feeder club and we all laughed... we are becoming Citys
If you're going to do a thing, you're as well doing it right.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
It was not a smart piece of BUSINESS. I'm not saying it wasn't good in a football sense- he's brilliant player. I just think we need to be smarter than that, given our finances.
What kind of utter rot is this?

For a nominal fee, we got the services of a guy who goes on to become a full Belgium international while with us. Y'know? Belgium? That national team with a good seven or eight defensive players changing hands for anything up to £10-12m a pop on average.

We get a player valued THAT highly for a season (who'd otherwise be out of our price range) for a small fee and this is bad business? What constitutes good business based on that reality?

Boyata seems like a classic Celtic type signing. Sounds like he has good potential upside with minimal risk.
It's bad business in that it is not a sustainable way to run your team as you have to keep rebuilding. Again, not talking about Denayer's ability.

Given how we now operate, as a selling club, loans are not prudent from business perspective.

I have heard of Belguim.

Once again, unless we have some time travellers on the board (Australians), nobody has any clue how well the guy will do or how good/bad of a signing this is, so getting yourself worked up over it is a waste of energy. Give the guy a chance and if he turns out to be a load of pants, we can worry then. It's exciting that we appear to be trying to get folk in early.

I spoke to my man city supporting mate last night. He's been a season ticket holder there for a few years. He reckons hes a decent player. Not bad with the ball at his feet, very physical and a real intimidating tackler. He said when he first broke through, they had a lot of hope for him and thought he would go on to great things. He's had a few injuries but if he's kept fit, he will be a really solid player for us.

He's one of those players who I've heard of but haven't seen much of. Should we be worried that he can't get a game ahead of Mangala who might be three worst centre half I've ever seen.

few city fans on football365 talking about boyata is basically 2 posts of laughing smilies and this

From Denayer to Boyata seems harsh. Boyata is an absolute fraud to be honest.

:nono:

would imagine he would be decent at worst for domestic games though. no idea how he would do in europe as impossible to say without seeing him much. no point writing him off though. who knows what the 7 minute stare from ronny will do to him

I always remember Bobby Peru putting a poster right when the quality of team we signed players from was being slaughtered. He correctly , though a touch smugly I'd agree :ph43r: , pointed out that we had three recent signings from Chelsea, AC Milan and Real Madrid, namely Jarosik, Donati and Gravesen.

Clearly, it matters not one jot from whence they came, it's where they want to go that counts.

I wonder what their comments on Denyer were twelve months ago?

Can Ronny make players better? Yes.

I seem to remember the same reaction from Newcastle fans about Fraser Forster. That turned out pretty well for us. In Ronny we trust :worthy:

I remember my mate's reaction to news a few years back when we had spent a "mere" £300k on someone he'd never heard of. Lacked ambition blah blah. Turned out to be a £300k steal aka Lubo :worthy:

Denayer hasnt looked great for us on occasions, especially without VVD next to him. If Denayer becomes a first team regular at Man City, I will eat my hat,! however theres a bit of a back log in the hat eating department after the recent elections so it might take a while to actually get round to eating said hat :boik:

How good a season does he need to have to be avoid this label?

I think it's grossly unfair. He's made a few mistakes but who doesn't? Even Craig Gordon, VVD, Brown, etc have made errors.....still been great for us this season imo.

I also doubt he'll be a regular at City but that's neither here nor there.

He's had a good season though to be fair in the first half of the season I thought he was pretty average. I thought he was excellent after he came back into the team in January though.

Anyway if we are Man City's feeder club shouldn't they be buying our players and not the other way around? :ponder:
