He's prone to the odd howler no doubt but I don't think he is that bad.

He's raw but given he's still young and he's consistently picked for the Belgian squad, hopefully he'll eradicate his daft moments and his lapses in concentration.
He's 24 and hasn't even played 50 professional league matches in his career and barely 75 overall.

Middle-aged, yet still experienced as a 18/19-year old youngster.
Even with not playing that many games, I expected a hell of a lot better from someone who was at Man City for so long. I mean he trained with some of the worlds best, was he making the same mistakes in training everyday there?
Yeah, boggles my mind. Without wanting to hammer him for the sake of it - his football ability is a general concern. Very uncomfortable with the ball.

His passing, touches and decision making is suspect on most occasions. Most SPFL clubs have picked this up and are increasingly closing him down. At least he can head the ball clear & out of danger.

I don't think that ability is an issue with both Boyata and Blacket. They're just lazy and careless.

He's young? He's 24 FFS! If he can't do the basics now - he's not going to learn them anytime soon.

I agree that might be the case with Boyata. Probably thinks it's just the SPL and he wont be punished.

Blackett is just crap.

Other way round for me - Boyata genuinly seems distressed after his mistakes and appears quite engaged in throw-in scuffles etc where Blackett just joggs along.

Both are pish.

No. It's a lack of ability issue.

He's hardly an OAP is he :ponder:

I still think there's a good player in there somewhere.

Fair fecks to him today at Perth.

Simunovic (as opposed to Efe or whoever) alongside helps him big time but IF he concentrates on getting his tackles in and clearing his lines he could actually do us a turn.

my hope, but not necessarily my expectation, for this lad is that he has a similar turn around in fortune that paul elliot did in the early 90s. If most people are being honest about elliot they will admit that his first season left a lot to be desired.

First season for the most part was refs being in full masonic overdrive and not giving the Guy an inch iirc.

Kelvin Wilson was unfairly slaughtered. This boy deserves every inch of the criticism he receives.

I just mind he was a cracking player in his second season much more so than his first.

I think we are starting to reap the benefits from having a consistent back line.

As far as Boyata, he was excellent today as he was on Thursday. He's not as bad as some on here make him out to be.

That's harsh Murph. He is only getting up to speed after playing very few games in the last couple of years. He is a far better player than many give him credit for, and a settled back four will only help him prove it. Jason Denayer looked dodgy up until Christmas last year, but by the time he left, he looked like a world beater. Let's see how Boyata shows up the rest of this season before making such scathing judgements.

I hope your right Boab, my fear with him is what looks like a real basic level of ability. His passing even over short distances can be absolutely shocking, he decision making just as bad. With Wilson it was clear he had decent ability and was very quick and to me his display at Ibrox really clouded the fact he was a decent player. I was quite excited about Boyata but even though I'm no fan of Ambrose there has been times I'd rather have Efe in the team. That says a lot. I think he has a long way to go - but here's here's hoping today was the start.

He nearly got caught out early on and after that didn't take any chances on the pitch. Kept it simple and did ok.

I've ripped him a apart a few times but he O'Halloran got far more joy from Jozo than he did against Boyata.

He's a goal threat as well.

Think his last few games have been a massive improvement. There might be a player in there after all.
