Did something that happens in just about every other match, he turned his back on the ball. Watched the Chelsea game last night & several players did the same thing. It's a natural reflex.

He had a good game.

Manager's confirmed first choice signing target this pre-season.
We obviously did our work on him & got him in early for the CL qualifiers.
Great work by the Club to get this done so early & give him plenty of time to bed in, with friendlies, pre-season & the like.

He's not played much football, but has been here for nearly 6 months, largely uninjured - making most training sessions & getting plenty of gametime.

This is our MO & one we'll be having for many a long time.

It has to work, what could go wrong?

So bad. Teams actively encourage him to come into midfield with the ball because they know he'll misplace a five yard pass and they can counter with a simple pass upfield. Bitton's sending off came from exactly that, as did the first goal in Norway.

How he managed to get any sort of wage from Man City is beyond me.
That came from a stupid backheel flick from Rogic. Brainless.

There's a player in Boyata. Whether he can be coached to improve and learn to cut out the mistakes, only time will tell. One thing is for certain - he'll play quite a few more games this season,

The lad is a decent enough CB and that's all
A playmaker he ain't nor ever will be. Instead of criticising him - look instead at the coach who asks him to do this week in week out since he never changes things!
Look also at the system and players in front of him.
At a level way,way above us, last week Arsenal got horses 5 going on 7 or 8 by Bayern Munich!
Arsenal tried to play an open game without the required cover in front of their back four!
Sound familiar?

He'll be 25 at the end of the month and managed 50 odd games before joining us. Whoever sanctioned this signing should be shot.

Played barely a handful of games a season in six years. Exactly the reason we should never have considered signing him.

Another complete liability in central defence.

Can't believe anyone is defending this clown. Every game he makes a howler or lazily jogs back/fails to shut down a player. We get away with it in the spl, but not in Europe. The first goal and bitton sending off sum this useless carrot up.
I can see why people may cut him some slack because at times he can do the right things but he is weak in every area of the game and has no quality to offset any of that. We would all gladly pay several million pounds to have a 30 goal plus striker. But Big Derek will cost us more goals than that up to January!

I'm ok with the signing. I'm not ok that he's our first choice CB.

Get Blackett back down to Manchester and sign someone that has Jozos talent, Boyatas age and a couple of hundred games under his belt at a decent level.

Then let the three of them fight it out for the two slots.

The thing which bothered me most was him watching blackett's crap clearance drop to the boy on the edge of the box without taking even a step towards him. He compounds it all by turning his back.

This amazed me. The natural instinct of a defender watching a forward about to pull the trigger for a shot is to get closer to him and cut down his angle for goal. Dedryck just stood there several of metres in front of the player and never moved. At that point I lost it with him - you want the guy to succeed but there are some basics that every footballer should possess naturally....

Dodgy pass led to the goal. Apart from that he was okay.

You could cut and paste that for most of his games.

So far he has been very poor. He might be better if he had an experienced player beside him telling him what to do but I have my doubts.
Looking at jozo he is definitely a right-sided player and i think he will be at his best playing right side centre half. Because of ghag and Considering how dodgy Blackett, ambrose and Boyota have all been I'd be inclined to go with jozo and Charlie mulgrew at the back. I know Charlie isn't great but he did win player of the year playing centrehalf. It would be some year if any of Blackett, Boyota or efe was the best player in it!

He is fekkin murder.
That back heel in the first half when he was last man is proof he has no instinct at all about how to defend.
Still haven’t forgiven him for his two howlers against Inverness.
He’s a diddy. Worse, much worse, than Tebily. :nono:
