Bloody hell , Man City have got more new Kompanys than feckin Sevco .

an old joke mate. Denayer was known as 'Sevco' among the squad when he first joined, due to being 'the new Kompany'...

Denayer, though a good player, was not a smart piece of business.
i dont think you will find one person who would agree with that
It was not a smart piece of BUSINESS. I'm not saying it wasn't good in a football sense- he's brilliant player. I just think we need to be smarter than that, given our finances.
We get a multi million player for a loan fee and bit of the wage?
I'll take one of them every season, given our finances

Fits the profile that deila talked about being interested in earlier in the season.... players with talent who have lost their way a bit, they can hopefully do us a turn whilst we raise their profile and get them moving in the right direction.

What kind of utter rot is this?

For a nominal fee, we got the services of a guy who goes on to become a full Belgium international while with us. Y'know? Belgium? That national team with a good seven or eight defensive players changing hands for anything up to £10-12m a pop on average.

We get a player valued THAT highly for a season (who'd otherwise be out of our price range) for a small fee and this is bad business? What constitutes good business based on that reality?

Boyata seems like a classic Celtic type signing. Sounds like he has good potential upside with minimal risk.

Good big lump. Was he not on loan a while back at Bolton and didn't do that well.

No doubt if he isn't great, he'll get called Deirdre.

Where is Loovens?

Permanent deal with a clause that City get a percentage of any sell on fee apparently

According to his Wiki he only played 8 times on loan at FC Twente. Isnt that concern? That he can't get a game, even when he is sent out on loan?

I hope this isn't true. I have only seen him play a handful of times but he has never impressed. I remember when he played against Arsenal and was sent off after a few minutes. My Bolton supporting mate reckons he was piss poor during his loan spell. He is 24 already and has done next to nothing in his career.

Is this really the type of player we want at our club? Seems like Lawwell might be trusting his sons judgement a bit too much in our transfer dealings.
Good to get the excessive negativity in before he's even signed. Wouldn't be KDS without it.

You're probably right, in recent years Celtic have a track record of bringing in really rubbish centre halfs. This one will almost certainly be a disaster.

Things have been going downhill ever since we signed that washed up goalie with the duff knee.
I'll bow to the altar of TinyTim if you called both Denayer and Gordon as unmitigated successes.

Of course I didn't. But I didn't write them off either. This guy hasn't even kicked a ball for us yet and already people are saying he's pish and Lawwell is trusting his sons judgment too much.

Ferocious negativity before he's even been given a proper chance.

This is a big lad with the touch of the Bobo Balde's about him. Seen him in Dublin at the supercup a few years back. Tackles well enough but passings brutal.

I pray we're not thinking of him and Danny Wilson as our new centre back pairing :twitch:

So, we might be close to signing a 24-year old Manchester City central defender who has reportedly made a total of 28 appearances for City and has been capped at every level for Belgium

He's negotiated a release from City according to the Sun, so sounds more like a permanent move especially as Lawwell Ronny and John Collins all met him. Decent signing I reckon.

Yes. Although it was 2 years ago that does contribute to the concern. If this is what we're genuinely looking at - essentially our Denayer replacement (too much to even contemplate that he's the VVD replacement) - then on the face of it we're replacing a 19 year-old who's been capped once for Belgium (and has looked excellent for us) with a 24 year-old who has, erm, been capped once for Belgium. Hardly an up-and-comer :(

we are replacing a 19 year old that we haven't a hope in hell of buying, with a 24 year old that we can buy....from man city....which is worrying in itself, unless its a Guidetti type deal....which is even more worrying

Boyata and Wilson next year then?

I remember an article a few years back that hinted we would become a premier league teams feeder club and we all laughed... we are becoming Citys
