Still don't think the penalty was his fault yesterday. Their player ran into him and went down easy. Ref was delighted to give it

What the eff is he doing making that tackle? Idiot.

Looking more and more like a poor acquisition.
Does he make a tackle though? McLean is very clever and makes the contact with Boyata. Naive of Boyata
That was my take on it as well although it looked terrible on first viewing - Boyata is static when contact is made - Aberdeen player player kicked his leg and went over looking for a decision.

Apart from anything else, that tackle was rank stupidity considering the guy was on the effin by-line.
It wasn't a tackle - he didn't even challenge - he just got into position to defend - fairly imo - and the Aberdeen player stuck a foot out for the contact.
He possibly got too close to the ball if anything - Thomson clearly just wanted to award it - maybe in light of the Mulgrew handball earlier - possibly.

It was certainly an absolute shocker of a soft pen - wasn't sheidt defending really - he was just unlucky.
He's had other incidents that have been more worthy of criticism - that's for sure.
You couldn't say he was to blame for the winner either - that was mainly Gordon/Blackett/Mulgrew - though maybe the whole backline wasn't ready for that freekick.
Were any of them set up right? Aberdeen completely had the run on the defence with Mulgrew completely posted missing.

He gave the ref a decision to make and should have known that the ball and player were going nowhere. Block the player's route but don't let him have the chance of winning a penalty.
fine - he maybe was a wee bit overzealous - but given that he didn't even make any challenge - whatsoever - that decision is down to piss poor refereeing - not an error from Boyata.
Could he have held back more? Maybe - but seriously - that's really splitting hairs. He didn't stick a boot out late he ran into an area, and stood his ground - that's all.

I thought the ref was conned - although in fairness Aberdeen should have had a penalty from mulgrew earlier. I am not sure he is as bad as some seem to think. Even regarding his passing there were times yesterday when the commentators were blaming him for a bad pass whie it was clear the fault of his teammate s not moving to the ball - including once when efe slipped.!he will be better when all around him is better.

He's done it in game after game - sloppy, misplaced passes that have put the defence under pressure. There are no excuses. Maybe he can gain experience and cut out such mistakes.

I didn't think it was a penalty and seeing the highlights there i still don't think so.

Boyata was poor yesterday 2nd half, but i still think he will do a job for us.

TBF He looks as thick as shampoo.

I'm hoping that all the guff Tony Caldwell is coming out with about "learning from mistakes" is sinking in, cos it might take a while.

His facial expressions after giving away penalties or fouls are bordering on hilarious.

He's big & fast, that seems to do it for our scouts now.

Can't play football & might struggle with the 7 times table.

Really hope that he can improve & quickly.

And this is the problem.
The teams playing distinctly below par - there needs to be some players taking the blame - and Boyata is getting it in the neck mostly.
Unfairly? Maybe to an extent - he's been here 2 mins, is still bedding in.
Even Efe is still getting it in the neck, even though for the most part he hasn't featured in these recent poor matches - and if he has had cameos, he hasn't been at fault.
But hey, he's the favourite whipping boy so must get it in the neck.

Hopefully Simunovic will slot in nicely into this backline.
I get a good feeling about Blackett - if the rest of the backline can settle down, Brown, Bitton and Johansen get some form together, we'll look solid again.
For the most part we have a decent side - but - the advanced positions, however you look at it, are light.
That is the main problem here - time should settle down the backline - but if you don't have the personnel up top - there's feck all you can do about it till the window...

I said this after his first few games.

His football intelligence is hilariously bad. Whether his intelligence off the pitch is of a similar level I don't know.

Gives the ball away and then skips back while play rages on, stands off players and has horrendous positional sense. He is so far off a Denayer it's not even funny.

The Aberdeen player was very clever, knowing Boyata was charging in behind him all he had to do was pull up sharply.
I hope he gets his act together quickly.

Who's Tony Caldwell? Is it some sort of play on Gary Caldwell and Tony Mowbray?

I don't really care about how he looks, his facial expressions or whether or not he is mathematically challenged either.

What really concerns me is when he gets the ball. He can't play a simple ten yard pass and is costing us goals. He is extremely rash and very cumbersome at defending too. Essentially; get him to eff.

I've learned not to write off a new player completely after a couple of games but it's his positioning which gives me the most concern. There were quite a few times on Sat when he completely lost his man.
I'm not sure how much that aspect can be improved when you've been playing football for as long as he has.
