Seems a decent enough stopper but his decision making when trying to pass is outrageously inept. He will cost us goals and, if we struggle to score at the other, will make for a lot of squeaky bum games against what should be SPFL fodder.

I'm clearly in the minority but I think Boyata was ok last night.

He certainly wasn't at fault for either of the goals.
He was at fault for the first goal the same way people blamed Ambrose for the last goal in the first leg.
Efe got skinned after a half arsed tackle.

Boyata blocked off Rosenberg after the striker had turned in our box.

Boyata was blameless.

Eff me the guy has made about 10 starts in 4 years
Why on earth did we sign someone with that kind of background? Common sense says we should at least have got in a regular starter with experience at a decent level. Boyata directed a header that was going wide into his own net on Tuesday - his third bad mistake in as many weeks. Guy's a bombscare who should be nowhere near a team relying on guys like him to get into the CL. The recruitment this summer has been total gash.

Boyata was caught on the wrong side of him when the ball was played through. Sutton mentioned it in commentary, and its the sort of thing that Sutton would know about.

But he recovered and blocked the cross?

Efe did nothing. The two incidents can't really be compared imo.

Boyata is completely out of his depth. He is not ready for big games like this. He looked terrified before the first leg. His ponderous dithering on the ball coming out of defence creates all kinds of problems. I think because we paid big money for him, Ronny feels that he has to play him. He might improve with more playing time in the league, but I wouldn't count on it. Don't know what the solution is, but I'd rather give the young lad O"Connell a chance.

he just doesnt look, or if he does he doesnt see feck all. 10 / 15 yard passes straight to an opposition player who doesnt even need to move is just

He has done well for us imo and he has came in for some unwarranted criticism. A couple of people have already said ''I told you so" when it comes to Boyata.

He can get better but he is in no way a bombscare.

At the beginning of his senior career Xavi Hernandez was doubted to ever being able to successfully playing midfield in a serious club, he was physically to weak and small to compete with REAL midfielders. He got more playing time due to Guardiola's prolonged injury, but still there were doubts if he would ever make it, he really reinforced himself as a midfielder worthy of starting in Rijkard's era. As he remembers in his 2012 interview:
"Four or five years ago, I was the worst, useless, disastrous. I was the cancer of Barcelona. A player of 1,70 m was simply impossible"..

Losing count of the number of goals he's directly caused us to concede.

Certainly far more than Ambrose ever has in such a short run of games.

Was giving him the benefit of the doubt up until now but how has he made himself a career in football when he cant make easy 10 yard passes when not under any pressure whatsoever? :brickwall:

Looks as comfortable on a football pitch as Daniel Majstorovic.

Any striker willing to have a go at him could be in for a field day.

Gash. Used to think it was just his distribution thy was poor but he's also exceptionally rash which is a dreadful trait for a defender.

Doesn't attack crosses, positional sense is poor, gets out muscled easily, has no heart....anything else? Worst c/back I've seen at the club by a mile, we've had some poor ones too, but this guy is something else
