Reminds me of Bobo. When he defends he looks fine but he's not good with the ball at his feet.

Played ok last night after my criticisms of him. Kept it simple. There was a few instances where he dwaddled on the ball and seemed quite ponderous.

Needs to let the ball leave the box from goal kicks.

Good defender but not a very good footballer.

I suppose Brown with his mis-passing last night is another "diddy"/"fud"/"bombscare" etc. etc. Are we to leave out Bitton from that categorising too? What about SJ?

The guys has been on the sidelines for the last while and is getting match sharp. As was seen in the Qarabaq game - ask him to defend and he does it well.

Brown and Bitton's passing is usually consistent.

Boyata's use of the ball has been very poor. It isn't a kneejerk reaction. We need our defenders to do more than defend.

Sleeping for their first goal last night, leaving Lustig to cover for him.

A effing diddy. Punt.
there were a few guilty parties for their first goal last night. Boyata wasn't one of them.
Brown, Izzy, Boyata and Lustig were all at fault.

Lustig is marking Boyata's man because he is staring into space.

He's not trying to be a ball playing centre half. People keep giving him the ball and he needs to do something with it.

Virgil should have taken more responsibility for playing the ball out of defence last night.

How I saw it. Virgil left it to the Dedryk to bring it out last night. Dunno if it was a Ronny directive to get him used to it, or if it was Virgil coasting.

Big responsibility for a new boy who doesn't have quite the confidence and presence yet. Quite often struggled to find a pass from it - but mostly played it safe.

Still think he'll be a player for us.

Malmo always left Boyata open and blocked off the pass to Van Dijk.

Didn't appear to be quite as tight as that but I'll accept it as something I missed. Virgil did give it staight back to Dedryk whenever he tried to off-load it to his experienced, £12million-rated, EPL standard, team-mate.

VVD and Boyata started switching positions because it was that obvious.

Actually watching the full 90+ mins again, Boyata had a very good game.

Apart from 2 misplaced passes he was excellent. And he is nowhere near as bad on the ball as people suggest. He just has to know when to hit the corners if a pass isn't on.

Agree he is rough around the edges, has blown hot and cold but will improve with experience. The SPL is a really good platform for him.
