To me Saturday was a result of switching off, game being won and thats something he needs to sort out but to say hes been hopeless is laughable. Games where Celtic need to be 'at it' he hasnt been found wanting thus far.
He did the exact same against Ross County though.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Yep and I thought Ambrose had a decent game minus their goal.

I don't think Boyata is up to speed (understandably - very little football) and is too big a gamble.
He let Magenis run off him quite a few times. Including for the chance that he blazed over the bar. He wasn't good.
That was worse than the goal we conceded.

There was another instance we committed a lot of players forward, Ambrose was going down the right wing, wen't to cross/pass, hit the first defender and we nearly got carved up on the break.

So there's three blatant mistakes Ambrose made in the Killie game and he usually has one of those in most, if not every game he plays.

I'd still go with Boyata, and he offers a goal threat as the last two European home games have shown.

Sleeping for their first goal last night, leaving Lustig to cover for him.

A effing diddy. Punt.

Heart attack stuff with the ball at his feet.

When he keeps it simple he's decent.

This is what bothers me about this forum.

A player who makes mistakes and has to work on various aspects of his game is labelled a "dud" or a "diddy" and should be punted.

Boyata's game has serious flaws. His passing is extremely inconsistent. Not rotten. Inconsistent. His positional sense and concentration both on and off the ball also let him down at times, but some of his tackles, blocks and interceptions have been absolutely spot on.

We don't buy/develop the ready-made, complete footballer. We can't afford them. We have to get the guys with enough raw materials and work on those.

I actually thought he played well. He was strong in the tackle and in the air.

He is always looking for a pass when he has the ball at his feet. Sometimes it doesn't come off. He had a good game imo.

I have zero confidence in him, and I'm just watching ... imagine how his team-mates must feel having to play alongside him?!

Maybe he'll get his act together but the signs are worrying. He's not a kid anymore, he's 24. Might be too late for him ... but I hope not.

The thought of having him AND Efe in the same back 4 is, to put it mildly, utterly terrifying!

I think he is a good natural defender - strong in the air, strong in the tackle, quick and willing to put his body on the line to block shots.

He is sloppy on the ball. That being the case, Virgil needs to step up and take responsibility for playing the ball out from the back. I appreciate that Malmo were willing to give Boyata more time on the ball than they gave Virgil, but the number of times that Boyata ended up having to make the forward pass into a congested midfield when he's clearly not comfortable doing so was a bit :twitch:

Thought he played well. There were others around him who are more deserving of criticism if any is being dished out.

Plays well for large spells & then gets himself into trouble from absolutely nothing. Just like the pattern of the team.

Worried for him when Virgil goes.

He has made critical mistakes in almost every game he has played. There is nothing I have seen that tells me he will develop into an average centre half, never mind a good one.

I wish I could get away with being as inconsistent and lack concentration in my job that doesn't pay thousands a week.

Reminds me of bobo, ok when all he has to do is header it or kick it away but heart in mouth stuff when he has time on the ball

I agree that he has made at least one really bad mistake every time he's played. But if you haven't noticed his strength/good timing in the tackle/air and a number of timely interceptions/blocks as well then I guess you've just made up your mind.

If there is no pass on, he just needs to play it up to one of the forwards, better to lose possession in the other team's half than your own. Seems to screw it up when he has too much time to think, just like Ambrose. By and large I think he will turn out a decent defender, Denayer struggled a bit at first, but if Ambrose plays RB in Sweden, if him and Boyata are going to give away needless possession that will make the task so much harder, VVD will be putting out fires all night. Overall though, if he can cut out the slack passing he is a good CB.

there were a few guilty parties for their first goal last night. Boyata wasn't one of them.

He wasn't the worst last night, but he doesn't seem to close opposition down, especially at the edge of the box. He just stands off.

I thought he did ok last night, he made 2 or 3 vital interceptions and he was steady enough when they pressed us. He's not the greatest on the ball, but i've seen him hitting some decent long passes too that will come to fruition once he gets more gametime.
