Aye, that’s right.

Boyata is solid and has never cost us goals.

:ffs:

Where did I say that he has never cost us goals?

Every defender does.

Boyata is first pick for both Belgium & Celtic.

But you know better
I said he has lapses in concentration. He does. Its not even a debate but you decide to respond waffling pish.

First pick for Belgium? Aye, when Vincent Kompany, Toby Alderweireld and Thomas Vermaelen aren't fit. He's had a few good games against mediocre to good opposition but let's not get carried away. We know why he's in the team.

And even if he is first choice for Belgium (he's not) doesnt take away from the many goals he's cost CELTIC since he joined in 2015

Let's see how he does v England.

That's all we heard from his detractors.

Now you are moving the goal posts again.

Belgium have other defenders btw.

At least one Belgian based poster had Boyata down is missing out on the full squad.

He is in the team on merit.

Guys like you are sitting by the tele hoping that Boyata makes a mistake. It is transparent.

As soon as Boyata got a run in the team he became a first pick because Rodgers could clearly see that his attributes outweigh his (obvious) failings. Over the piece, under the present manager, he has been terrific. It's worth remembering his return to the bombscare we all remembered last season was at the end of a long period out. He wasn't sharp - and I think that is his biggest failing, concentration and focus. Physically speaking he is quick, has good strength, is good in the tackle and is dominant in the air. He also provides a threat in the opposition box. Against Anderlecht last season I was rubbing my eyes at how accomplished he was on the ball. His progression under Rodgers has been remarkable. I originally thought he was like a cross between Ambrose and Majstorovic - a joke. But I have changed my mind. He has been terrific for Belgium in this World Cup and has seized the chance with both hands. I'd be very surprised to see him dropped. I'd also be very surprised if he is a Celtic player next season. With one year left and plenty of options on the back of recent performances I don't think we will see him back.

Have no idea where you manufactured all this pish from.

I said he has lapses in concentration. You responded to it making out you disagreed, but you were actually agreeing.

You said he was first choice for Belgium as a central defender. We all know he's fourth choice and currently in because Kompany is injured/returning from injury.

Why the eff would I want him to make a mistake? I'm delighted at Boyata's World Cup form and hope it maximises his value for a move out given he's got 12 months left on his contract at Celtic. On a personal level, I hope he plays well in every game and they get to the final.

I'd stopped posting regularly on this board for a couple of years. Guys like you making up pish remind me why.

We are going to get a cracking fee for the big man. Absolutely bossed England and there can be no doubts that he is a classy defender. Made a couple of errors in his time with us, but will be very appealing to more defensively set up teams. No doubt we'll get top dollar, but we have to spend it wisely.

BTW - if Thomas Vermalen is ahead of Boyata then someone at Belgium needs a slap. He hasn't been a good defender in years and how he won a move to Barca was almost beyond belief.

Because I think the reputed £7-£15m can secure a better defender.

If he keeps it simple he's a very solid defender, sometimes he forgets that though and has a brainfart.

He's worth what someone will pay for him. Just the same as Stuart Armstrong last week.

Maybe he'll be worth more or less in the future. What does it matter if no one's bid for him and he's not been put up for sale?

Not his biggest fan. Wanted him binned after his calamitous performance in the 3-2 win at Ibrox - as did a good few others - and I haven't veered too far from that opinion. He's doing well at the World Cup against Panama, Tunisia and England B (though he was completely done by Jamie Vardy at one point last night.) It will be interesting to see if he holds onto his place now that Kompany seems to be approaching fitness.

Right now he and Ajer are our two best options, on account of Simunovic always being injured and Hendry not being particularly good, but if we could shift him off the back of a decent World Cup and upgrade then that would be prudent business, particularly when he doesn't seem too fussed about signing a new contract.

Surely that logic is flawed? If Boyata goes for £7million+ and a 50k+ weekly wage then that would suggest that is the going rate for a centre half of his ability and experience wouldn't it?

So we're unlikely to replace like with like if we sell him, never mind getting an instant upgrade.

I'm not averse to selling Boyata or anyone else, in the squad if the money is right. But the general expectation has to be that the transfer fee goes to buy another youngster with potential to be developed rather than an experienced drop in replacement who will instantly improve the team.

Progress in our case isn't replacing players with an instant upgrade, it's gradually improving the quality and quantity of the young players we bring in to develop. So from Ki & Matthews, to Forster & VVD to Dembele/Edouard/Ntcham could be argued as the evidence of progress and the system working.
