All this chat about how good he is (or not) is secondary to the contract situation. That is what will dictate where his future lies.

Absolutely strolled it so far.

Clearly the World Cup is a lower level than the Champions League. :ph43r:

£7m for Boyata

Does anyone seriously think Celtic could replace a 27-year old, athletic, fast and tall central defender with Champions League experience and 10 caps for the 3rd best ranked international team (with 3 of those caps earned at the 2018 World Cup), for £7m ? :ponder:

Email your suggestions to Brendan.Rodgers. HereFor10inarow@celticfc.net
We replaced VVD for 1.5m or whatever it was for Boyata. So, possibly. Or possibly not.

On the other hand, if he keeps his place in a team which does extremely well in the World Cup, and who counts as homegrown for the EPL, we may well get considerably more than £7m.
"with Champions League experience" - not to deny that he has it, but he's hardly shone in the CL. Christ, Anthony Ralston & Tony Watt have Champions League experience, it doesn't make them better players than they actually are. There's nothing in that first post that's not factual but it's like you're writing a CV and trying to stretch every point to be as positive as humanly possible.

I'm delighted that he's playing well for Belgium, not just because I hope it attracts bids for him but he seems like he works hard on his game and deserves the reward. It looks like he's always the spare man at the back with the other 2 attacking the ball more, though he has defended well at a lot of their set pieces (apart from that goal) and been actively involved then. He's been quietly impressive throughout

Happy for him but still keen to punt him.

The well publicised howlers he's made at Celtic are irrelevant as to how he's rated as opposed to a few good games in a world class team at international level? Ok.

£15m bargain Boyata :ffs:
"well publicised"

Boyata is doing the business on the biggest stage of all, and tonight marshalled the Belgian defence against England: clean sheet. I'd say he's worth more than 15M in that market, but it's a happy situation for us either way. He's quite young is he not?

Anyway, your opinion is remarkable in its negativity.
Yet unremarkable in its consistency. Oneillsrev demands a reduced fee. Wheely bin tech is the way forward.

'Reduced fee' - what pish are you talking?

The £15m has been plucked out the air on a messageboard and now accepted as his value

Lazio were linked with him last week in the Italian press at £7m. I said it would be good deal for Celtic given his contract situation and level of ability

He's been average to good the majority of his time here. Prone to excellence against weak opposition, and also prone to major calamities that cost goals due to poor concentration. Bossed by average Sevco attackers in the 2-3 game last season.

If a few good games against world heavyweights like Panama, Tunisia and England drive his value up to £15m and some sucker pays it, I shall be absoeffinglutely delighted for at least 48 hours and maybe do a wee jig in my garden.

For it will be the most remarkable transfer in Celtic's history.

And there's the correct post there.

No way good enough to be treating Celtic to the " i'll see how I feel when I get back from world cup" . Get to eff ya chancer.

Of those other players, the one that has impressed me least is valued at €17m. It's an easy job you're setting for Celtic there ;)

I didn't actually mean the Belgian players - my apologies. But the point still stands - perhaps its the players around him that need more money spent on?

Watch the game last night here in Italy...Italian commentators were impressed by Boyata and thought he looked the business.

Hopefully he'll push his value up a bit and some EPL club with more money than sense will come in for him.

yes , disgraceful that he doesn't immediately sign a contract and show some loyality to fans like yourself who call him a chancer.

I reckon he'll go now that his stock and his profile is as high as it's ever likely to be.

A year left on his deal? Depends which cash rich side is desperate for a quality centre back who has the occasional brain fart.
This obsession with with focusing on a player's mistakes drives me mental; every player makes them, even the best - including Celtic legends. AFAIC too many people are happy to buy into the media presentation of our players.

I think Boyata was made the scapegoat last season for circumstances outwith his control; for a variety of reasons we didn't play a settled back four for much of the season, and then he himself was injured, but was expected by some to be stellar in every game on his return.

I will leave the judgment on the player up to the manager, whatever he decides.
The greatest captain in our history had a mistake that was almost a replica of Boyata's at Ipox to put us out of a European Cup qf against AC Milan, the eventual winners. He followed that up with a absolute mare against Feyenoord in the final two years later. You are correct -- all players make mistakes. It depends on how popular they are as to how long fans hold it against them.

Boyata isn't young in years but he is in experience. He is now playing at the highest level. If he does go, we should be looking for a lot more than seven effin million! :brickwall:
You forgot Dinamo Kiev in 1967. :twitch:

Didn't watch the game last night, but did the commentators mention he was a Celtic player, cause they name check every EPL club, Stoke, West Brom or such like when any irrelevant connection can be made.

Can't remember if they did or not. To be fair they did call him a Fenian carrot so I guess that's close enough.
