I think he has a touch of the Bobo's about him, but from what i have seen quite as not as rash or clumsy in the tackle. Give him a run in the side and see how it goes. Playing regularly in a decent team might just be all he needs to get himself going again.

I know someone at Rosshall. A speaker of the French tougue. The big man was there with his bird and a agent. The conversation:
Bird: I cannot understand why they questioned your commitment.
Boyata: I'm not lazy at training.. although they said I was.
Lol. Good source and a wee project for Ronny. This is what he specializes in though.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Compensation as he's classed as a home grown player?
he is not out of contact. my guess is no fee upfront but small fee when he reaches appearance markers and getting to champions league Did not buy out the last year on his contract?

Did not buy out the last year on his contract? I read that he was signed for £1.5m, with a buy-back clause

IT’S like Celtic’s own episode of Come Dine with Me — with Dedryck Boyata the sole judge.
The Belgian defender has revealed his new team-mates have been queuing up to make him feel at home in Glasgow.
Boyata has been at a different house for dinner every night this week, as Virgil van Dijk and Co show off their cooking skills.
The former Manchester City defender was too polite to say which Celtic star served the best meal.
But he admits being made to feel so welcome has helped him settle and focus on the Hoops’ Champions League bid.
He said: “I haven’t been out a lot in Glasgow yet. I have been in the hotel mainly, trying to find myself a flat.
“But I have some really kind team-mates who have invited me for dinner or to stay with them in their houses.
“The likes of Virgil, Mikael Lustig, Tom Rogic and Stefan Johansen have all made it really easy for me, as has Nir Bitton who came back on Tuesday.
“They’ve said they would expect the same from others if they had just come to the club.
“I like everything about the club and what we do in training and matches.
“It is a really good club that looks to develop players. For Celtic, their first goal is to make the player better and that is why we are here.”
Boyata, 24, teamed up with Van Dijk in the heart of the Hoops defence against Den Bosch on Wednesday night.
They worked together well in the 2-0 stroll and the Belgian hopes it’s the start of a successful partnership.
That will all depend on whether Van Dijk gets a big move this summer — and Boyata was immediately impressed.
He said: “I don’t know what is going on with Virgil. I can’t say what is going to happen. You never know who you are going to play with, but Virgil is a really good player.
“I found it really good with him on Wednesday and hopefully that will continue to be the case.”
Gary Mackay-Steven shone in Boyata’s debut, scoring the opener and playing a key role in the second.
The big defender has been blown away by the winger’s skill and pace since joining last month.
Boyata played with the likes of David Silva at Manchester City and knows how vital players like that are in any team.
And he believes GMS will be key as Celtic target a place in the Champions League group stages.
He said: “I haven’t played in a one v one against Gary yet, but he looks really sharp. If I see him running at me very quickly I think I will just jog back!
“Wingers like that, who are quick, can take people on and score goals, are a real plus.
“I am not the player who is going to take the defender on to score the goal.
“Gary is that type of player. I am a defender and if we play well then the score will still be 0-0, but if GMS plays well it could be 3-0 or 4-0.
“You always need the special players who can do something the other players can’t.
“He is a really good prospect. I didn’t know him from before, but now I know all about him.
“Can he make the difference in Europe? Of course he could, but when you talk about the team you should be talking about everyone.”
Boyata was Ronny Deila’s priority signing this summer following the departure of his old Manchester City pal Jason Denayer.
He immediately bought into the Norwegian’s vision and loves being part of his Celtic squad.
The Belgian stopper spent a long time on the sidelines at the Etihad but is now ready to relaunch his career.
He will feature against Dukla Prague this afternoon and reckons there is a lot more to come from this Celtic team.
Boyata said: “I like the way we play and I think it really suits me. You always want to show the best you can and the Den Bosch game was our first one back.
“We will try bit by bit to show our qualities and that will come after we get our fitness back.
“We have worked a lot on how the team will play and I think I got a lot of information at once.
“I think I can deal with it. I don’t think it will be difficult. I like the way we play, so that makes it easier.”
Boyata also welcomed the arrival of Swiss defender Saidy Janko from Manchester United.
They may have been on opposite sides of the Manchester divide but the Belgian is a fan of the teenage right-back.
With Adam Matthews bound for Sunderland, there is a place up for grabs in Janko’s position.
Mikael Lustig and Darnell Fisher will provide competition, but Boyata believes the Swiss kid can make an impression in Deila’s side.
He said: “I didn’t personally play against Saidy but I have seen him play against City and he is a really good player.
“Saidy is a forward-thinking player. He is a full-back, but he likes to get forward and to attack and put a lot of crosses in.”

BIENVENU BOYATA is convinced his son is going to become as big as African Player of the Year Yaya Toure.
Centre-half Dedryck, a £1.5million capture from Manchester City, made his Hoops debut in this week’s 2-0 friendly win over Den Bosch.
And his father only sees a glittering future ahead for the Bhoy who he compared to City midfield powerhouse Toure, below.
Bienvenu said: “If I had to compare him with someone, it would be Yaya Toure. Like him, Dedryck has good technique and combines it with strength.
“Manchester City wanted to extend his contract but as he wasn’t going to play he wouldn’t have evolved.”
Boyata’s dad is a hero back home in the poverty hit Democratic Republic of Congo where he inspires a new generation of players with a groundbreaking initiative, alongside masterminding a business empire.
He guided Dedryck, 24, to the top after retiring from his own career in the game.
He was a striker for Kinshasa side SC Utexafrica, before leaving Congo, where the average income is just £260 per year, for Belgium, turning out for Union St Gilloise and Leuven in the late 80s and early 90s.
It was there Dedryck was born and he coaxed the ball-playing stopper to follow in his footsteps.
Bienvenu, 51, said: “I played in attack and I wanted Dedryck to become a forward and use my experience, but he gravitated towards defending and distributing play. Defending is his natural game.”
Now Bienvenu wants to see a whole host of Congolese kids do what his son has done.
He’s a key part of the FECOFA — the country football association’s program ‘Football Repetita Bis’, which helps youngsters escape poverty through football.
In Congo only 60 per cent of people can read and the life expectancy is just 50 for it’s 77 million citizens.
Bienvenu leads the mission which distributes balls and equipment, so budding stars can hone their skills. They were given out throughout the nation in capital Kinshasa.
Dodo Landu, Secretary General of Union des Footballeurs Congolais, added: “Football Repetita Bis is a concept we have created in agreement with Bienvenu Boyata.
“Unlike younger people in Europe, we feel that those in our country do not have enough appropriate equipment for individual training.”
Not only keen to give something back through football, Bienvenu is inspiring by forging a path in business.
He owns a booming van rental company Glodimels based in Zellik, a suburb of Belgian capital Brussels.
Bienvenu’s intense drive to succeed is recognised by his son, who he urged to leave Manchester City this summer, where he wasn’t playing and sign for Celtic.
It was the same when he switched teams as a 12-year-old in Belgium, moving to FC Brussels.
Dedryck said: “I was at White Star Woluwe, and never wanted to move — he made me move.”

Very rusty today. His passing way off at times. Had a decent game against Den Bosch earlier in the week though.

DEDRYCK BOYATA admits he learned all about Celtic in Europe from his wife's Hoops-mad Belgian grandad.
The club's £1.5million summer signing is set to make his competitive debut when Stjarnan visit Parkhead tonight in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier.
The former Manchester City man impressed in pre-season and insists he's ready to play in front of a packed Parkhead on a European night.
And Boyata credits his wife's grandfather for giving him the lowdown on how much Europe means to his new club.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to it.
"Celtic is a big club, a huge club, and playing in Europe is such an important thing. I am excited about it and looking to go as far as possible in the competition with Celtic.
“I have never been in a full stadium at Celtic Park, but from what I have heard, it’s unbelievable.
"A lot of people in Belgium have talked to me about the crowd which means we must have a really huge support so it’s important to show big Celtic is on this stage.
“My wife’s grandfather is a fan of Celtic and told me a few bits about the club in Europe. He’s from Belgium but he’s a fan of Celtic and knows all about the club, just like my agent.
“You would be amazed about the amount of Celtic fans in Belgium. He has told me about how they won the Champions League – and also about the whisky over here as well!”
Boyata watched on as Celtic battled on more than one occasion with Barcelona in recent seasons.
Now he wants to experience the top-level of European football during his time in Glasgow.
He said: “It’s really important as you have the chance to show yourself.
"With the players we have here, even though we are young, it’s a big opportunity to prove how good we are.
“I have seen the team play against Barcelona a few years ago, and if we play in the Champions League and win games like that, then we can only be proud of ourselves.
“Everybody knows about the Champions League. It’s a really big tournament and there is a prestigious factor to play in it, and if we could do it this year it would be a good thing for all of us.”

That MEN article suggest we've paid £1.5m for a player who played 28 times in 7 years for the club who sold him, and who was less than 6 months away from being able to sign a pre-contract.
Somehow I don't think so.
aye , every article I've read has the 1.5 mill quote in it...
Compensation as he's classed as a home grown player? Doesn't work like that. He crossed the border to Scotland like Ledley so would be a freebie.
