Must be a permanent deal. At 24 years old he's beyond the prospect stage.

He's played eff all football over the past 3/4 years. I'll guess loan with option to buy.

He's only made 30 first team appearances in over 5 years as a professional footballer and couldn't cut it at Bolton or Twente. :twitch:

Boyata's contract runs for another year I think. I've never heard of him but this article seems almost positive-http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2152414-why-dedryck-boyata-has-never-made-it-at-manchester-cityhttp://bleacherreport.com/articles/2152414-why-dedryck-boyata-has-never-made-it-at-manchester-city

Contrast that with the fact that it seems he has barely played during his loan spells. Very much a wait and see.

Another loan presumably?
I think he's out of contract.
2016 according to the internets.

Another Belgian, primarily a centre back but can also play right back.

Has a year remaining on his contract but if we can sign him for next to nothing, could be a good deal.

Lack of first team games over the years is a concern however, would prefer Denayer to stay instead

The problem with the loan to buy option is that a contract with the player is never agreed beforehand. So it's really a loan deal with the option to bid for the player. In theory, Guidetti was the same, we had the first option to sign him permanently but that doesn't mean he or Boyata will want to. One successful season and new avenues open up.

We did well with Denayer as it worked for all parties, but I wouldn't recommend a similar deal for Boyata as I wouldn't have with Guidetti.

Can't be that close. Derk would have gone down otherwise

Denayer, though a good player, was not a smart piece of business.
i dont think you will find one person who would agree with that
It was not a smart piece of BUSINESS. I'm not saying it wasn't good in a football sense- he's brilliant player. I just think we need to be smarter than that, given our finances.
What wasn't smart financially about the Denayer deal?

I remember him being a massive prospect 5 or so years ago. In fact I think I recall reading some list of 'top CB prospects' with him ranked #1. Obviously it has not worked out for him at all. I also feel like I get him and that Chelsea kid (chalaboh?) mixed up a lot so maybe I could be mis-remembering.

No financial return.
The alternative was spending a transfer fee on an inferior player. I would say it was a smart move financially.

No idea who he is, but good to be getting deals done early.

Though I do enjoy being on holiday in July and getting excited at all the wee drips and drabs of information that come through. For that I'll be sad.
