He's not got it mentally. Hes not good enough.

Yesterday was Loovensesque. In fact it was worse than that other haddie Wilson.

If he's untrustworthy at 27. He's always going to be.
A big game he's a bag of nerves.
He is basically Loovens with more pace. And better hair.
Probably the best summary of the guy I've seen.

We need better.

He’s really not. Even when the guy is the absolute stand out player on the park (Hearts at home for example), folk still don’t give him credit for it. He’s our best centre back who was put in a really bad position yesterday and in turn had a stinker.

And this it it.

The guy has the mental strength of a five year old child.

One mistake and you can bet your arse the guy is going to be shampooting buttons for the the rest of the match.

It's happened a few times and yesterday's 1st half was ALMOST as bad as his showing v Sevco in the cup semi.

If we're going into next seasons qualifiers with Boyata as out 1st choice CB I'll be pissed right off.

Simunovic was worse but Boyata hardly covered himself in glory in those games.

I understand football fans have different opinions but I don’t see how people can continually make excuses and defend this guy.

Efe Ambrose was a joke figure by the end of his tenure with us but he was a big part of the team that made it into the last 16 of the CL and was part of the defence that kept the clean sheet record in Lennons final year. Boyata hasn’t accomplished any of those things and let’s us down just as much. I don’t get it.

Agreed.

It's went from he has had a good half season down to he's only played well in a handful of games.

He is seen as a poor passer when his completion rate is excellent.

At SPFL level he is a great asset. He has also had good games in Europe and never been given credit.

This thread is a mirror image of the caldwell and efe threads over the years. He's far too unreliable. I'd rather see hendry and ajer get game time.
This is were I am too.
Play the younger, less experienced guys - who are possibly already better, but certainly going to become better than the cluster fuks in front of them.
Ajer has already shown himself more than capable & Hendry has played a fair bit at Dundee.

he has the mulgrew syndrome

started off a bomb scare

had one really good season

and has reverted back to bomb scare

punt as soon as possible

we don't need another efe on our hands

What an absolute load of rubbish. Mulgrew was far superior in a Celtic shirt to what Boyata has been and ever will be.
No he wasnt.

You can't blame a lack of match fitness for the mistake for their first goal, or the attempt at kicking the ball only to miss it and let the 10 million YEN man through for his shot straight at Bain.

He is prone to that kind of performance even with a run of games under him.
You can - when you're tired , you make mistakes mentally, as well as physically.
Tired for the first goal.

Boyata is prone to being caught in possession like that trying to be too fancy on the ball, whether he has been playing regularly or just back from injury.

6 minutes, 41 seconds in.

Never a penalty, but all caused because he's not a very good footballer.

Bayern Munich at home, another basic error, another goal. Huns on Sunday, with Morelos almost scoring in the second half after another blunder.

The guy isn't good or consistent enough to play for us in big games. One good game away at Anderlecht is outweighed by all those other times he does something daft, and it's always because he makes bad decisions.

We have to be looking to improve on him if we want to progress in Europe.

He's been here a while now and threatened to become a quality player but injuries or bombscare football are never far away. Definitely has potential but it's a few seasons with us now and at his age we should be beyond that stage, he's only around two year or so younger than Efe I think and we rightly bailed on him for similar reasons and performance.

Exactly, he's coming into what should be the prime years of his career and he still makes wrong decisions either by being caught in possession or poor choice/execution of passes too often to be written off as unlucky or nothing to worry about.

He can get away with it a lot more in run-of-the-mill domestic games as he has a bit of pace about him to try and get back or crap forwards not making the most of the chance but in big games he's not always as lucky.

I actually agree with you regarding Europe although he has had good games. Munich away for instance.

In domestic football though he has played well for us.

He has not made nearly as many mistakes as people have said.

Go back and read the thread.

I’ve clearly stated tiredness wasn’t the cause of the first goal. It is a difficult time of the game for someone who hasn’t played for weeks.

Poor concentration cost him at that point

He doesn't know his limitations. That's where he got caught out a few times on Sunday. Thinks he's better than he is, dangerous for a limited CH.

Kingslim is correct. Sharpness up top is affected after being out for so long too.

It's frustrating, I do believe Boyata has it in him to be a commanding centre back but it's becoming an overly slow process. They both had ups and downs on Sunday but Ajer, a midfielder now being spread defensively, is coming on at pace in comparison.
