Half a good season.
This.

Sviatchenko has had more good games for us than Boyata and folk couldn't wait for us to get rid. Boyata hit some good form in the second half of last season but has been fair to awful for the rest of his time with us.

He's a good player. Shocking couple of errors but he should never have played given the time he's been out injured.

He wasn't match fit and made a howler in the first couple of minutes but was reasonable after that and played his part in the last 15 minutes!

I think he is an OK player. If you look at some of the defenders we have had over the last 10 years or so, he is better than most. He is massively let down by his concentration.

Seemed risky to play him and almost backfired in a big way.

I like him but there were a few instances today when he was at his dozy worst.

He was at fault for their 2nd goal. He has to go and clear that ball, instead he let Morelos outmuscle him at the near post. He also gifted Morelos a one-on-one with Bain in the 2nd half when it was 2-2.

he has the mulgrew syndrome

started off a bomb scare

had one really good season

and has reverted back to bomb scare

punt as soon as possible

we don't need another efe on our hands

What an absolute load of rubbish. Mulgrew was far superior in a Celtic shirt to what Boyata has been and ever will be.
i might be missing something then

mulgrew got punted as not being good enough as a left back

was re-signed after a few seasons after not being good enough for wolves and being very decent with set pieces for the sheep

was soon found out for us at left back for being as slow as a week in the jail.

had one great season when converted to centre back for us

then reverted back to being as quick as a sloth

My comparison is

Boyata started off as a bombscare

credit where it is due - had a very good season last year

this year he has regressed to where he started

learn from previous mistakes and punt as soon as possible

He absolutely wasn’t. Tierney abd Ajer were badly at fault for it.

He’s not fit.

Gamble backfired. I think if Compper has been on the bench he would have changed it at HT. I don’t think he wanted to throw Hendry in at that point.

Today, Boyata looked like a guy who hadn’t played for 6 weeks.

Unfair to judge his capabilities on that today.

Aye, he was rotten, but perspective required also
He’s made plenty of similar errors before whilst being match fit. It’s just basic errors/lack of concentration and the match fitness excuses don’t cut it with me he’s just not good enough.
Match sharpness includes decision making.

I’m not trying to defend him but his lack of fitness was evident. He was so far off the pace.

I get that you love him and that. But he was a disgrace all game. Including goals one and two.

If that was Tierney you'd have popped an eye vessel..

We all know it takes Boyata a few games to get going.

He was played today for his pace and arial ability I think. The pitch was really bad which contributed to some of his mistakes (not an excuse, he should be dealing with them).

Let's not go overboard - if he has another similar performance in the semi he can eff off tho, deal?

He was shampoo and most of it can be blamed on not being fit such as Morelos outmuscling him for the second and again in the second half for Bain's save. His involvement for the first has nothing to do with being injured. The decision making is what was terrible about that goal. Go back to the keeper or put it out for a throw in. Don't floof about when you're last man and aren't the best with the ball to begin with.

I thought he played well, give he has been out injured for some time and had no match practise....bad mistake early on but he recovered well.

2nd goal....Ajer & Jozo should have dealt with it...then KT could & should have blocked the shot, while Brown decided to cover BEHIND KT...a foot to the right and he would have cleared it.

Loved Boyata'a reaction at Bain's save / Moreorless' miss.

A couple of games and he will be match sharp again, gives us the pace badly lacking in Ajer / Jozo and more than decent in the air.

I mentioned in the pre match thread that I spoke to Boyata on Wednesday and asked him if he would be fit for Sunday.
He said he wasn't.
So either he's been on the Lourdes water or Brendan took a gamble.

I’ve criticised him and said he had a nightmare today

agreed. he has deserved criticism in the past for mistakes caused by concentration lapses. but I actually felt a bit sorry for him today - a lot of that was down to sharpness and in his defence he never once hid. although if we hadn't won, I perhaps wouldn't be as tolerant as this!
