He's a conundrum. Makes Efe like mistakes at times, but looks good otherwise. Cuts out the slack passing and he'd be top class..

He had some game tonight.

Confident on the ball . accurate in passing , never lost a challenge and scored- excellent.
Just a thought, but would Boyata be more effective as a RB than a CB?
No.

He didn’t play RB last night.
He did against Hibs though, and had another good game.

No.

I don't really think he played a traditional RB role v Hibs. He was just the right sided centre back in a back 3 and played extremely wide. Forrest was like a right-wing back that game iirc.

The problem is, it's one of those positions in the team where you can't afford to make such calamitous mistakes on a regular basis. Like a goalkeeper: it doesn't matter how brilliant he is if he throws the ball into his own net every fourth game.

And it's not as if Boyata is a young player. I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see him ever cutting out the clangers.

Despite him being slaughtered, I think if he plays the full 90 on Saturday then we don't lose.

Unlikely if it's groin strain and looked bad going by is reaction.

Cheers, was hoping for a positive outcome from the 'no news is good news' way of thinking. ;)

That’s quite a lot of bollocks in one post. Can you point to some of these recent occasions when he “ threw the ball into his own net?”

I thought my point was clear. A central defender can't afford to make calamitous mistakes every 4 or 5 games, just as a goalkeeper can't, no matter how good they are in between. We couldn't afford with Ambrose and I don't think we can afford it with Boyata. I think we need someone better.

Calamitous mistakes on a regular basis? Care to let us know the last time Boyata made a 'calamitous mistake'? And what's this 'regular basis' nonsense?

Give me strength

As far as I can recall Boyata's last poor game was at Tynecastle on a day where everyone was woeful, and before that, I can't remember him making any serious errors this season. I honestly think people just make up that he's the ghost of Efe Ambrose in order to justify sticking by their initial views of him. He's our best centre half by a long way.

Was shaky first half v aberdeen too, and was quite badly at fault for Munich first at cp.

I'm not a huge fan but he's had so little 1st team football for someone his age, he gets a bit of slack. Dont forget that he went off injured trying to recover the ball after playing Ajer into a proper legbreaker with another one of his lazy passes. No excuses for that, he does it far too often.
