This thread is ridiculously unfair on him after today.
Agree with that. A couple of poor decisions in the first half but like the rest of the team he grew in confidence.

He is a confidence player.

Yep, as wrong-headed as that match report from the Sunday Mail that’s in the post match thread. It’s downright weird, people so keen to put the boot into this particular player when he’s one of a number who have underperformed of late, and after such an astonishing turnaround in his Celtic career under BR. WTF’s the score here?

Everyone who’s been shampoo recently has been moaned about on here, is Boyata to be exempt from this?
He’s actually not good enough and doesn’t want to be here anymore.
He has certainly not received the same abuse that Jodi has, and he’s actually signed a new contract to remain with us.

Dunno about Jodi, but thanks for illustrating my point.

The criticism is not based on one game. We heard the same defence of Ambrose, over and over. And even in this, one of Boyata's better games, he dropped a clanger that could have cost a goal -and certainly would have against a better team. He is a big part of the reason the defence so often looks terrified. He will never be the answer.

Didn't see the game but I note the defence didn't concede a goal.

They nearly all are.

A few mistakes today but overall he was alright. Unfortunately alright is as good as it will ever get. If he is messing about re contract talks I would punt - however that may be easier said than done as I don't think there will be too many takers.

Great, you pick up on the autocorrect as you can’t answer a question. Well played.
My comment hasn’t illustrated your point, you’ve thrown your rattle out the pram and posted pish.
Everyone that’s played poorly has been criticised recently, you clearly think Boyata should be exempt from that.
That’s what’s “downright weird” here.

Don't think we can afford to have 'confidence players' at the heart of the defence. He doesn't have to get the ball and attack men time and again like a winger.

The team should get confidence from the defence.

It's really not. The guys an accident waiting to happen.

First half he was terrible improved in second but we still need better than him if we want to compete at CL or Europa league level.

A better performance eventually but just not got what it takes to be a full time first choice centre back for us moving forward. He’s too prone to mistakes, and the “great tackle” he’s getting plaudits for, was on GMS, so not really a big one

Agreed, especially when his confidence is dented by one of his own bad passes, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. Though in his mind I think his confidence is dented by the fans reactions to his bomb-scare moments. If he was as good as he thinks he is, he'd be a great player.

Time to punt him. Ajer and Compper from the New Year onwards with Jozo playing when either can't

At times he looks a good defender - his solid tackle on GMS yesterday an example - but at other times he looks more like a current day version of Olivier Tebily.
I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon to knock him here, I do like him, but his wayward passing, especially under no pressure at times is woeful and embarrassing, although he, Simunovic and Gordon are all guilty of some horrendous decision making which makes the team vulnerable at times, even to to poor or mediocre opponents. Often it appears the three of them are on completely different wavelengths which obviously means the defence is going to be less than secure.

There is no bandwagon. Just Celtic fans giving their opinion on a player's ability.

I know, but other posters have suggested there is, especially after the Hearts game.

It's always the same if you give an honest critical opinion: you're part of a "witch-hunt" or jumping on a "bandwagon". Just the internet being the internet.

The reality is, Boyata might have certain qualities, but he isn't a good enough footballer to play the style of defence Rodgers is trying to play. I'm hoping he won't be anywhere near the team in the New Year.

The first sentence of your post was exactly the point I was trying to make.

He was rotten again. Are people’s expectations for a Celtic centre half so low that one tackle makes a good game? If anyone watched the game, they would have seen Boyata have another shocker in the first half. Passing was predictably atrocious and his defending was garbage as well. Aberdeen has a good 10 minute spell in the game and a lot of that was down to Boyata.

He made a tackle in the second half therefore he's a good defender again.
