etims and 90min podcasts lately seem to be hinting at boyata wanting away and his agent not turning up for scheduled contract talks :suspect:
Mibby strinking while the iron's hot. Reputation's been restored, promise fulfilled for a good bit, and he's getting on a bit in fitba terms when it comes to big money.

As long as he goes about it the right way.

Came on leaps and bounds, can look great but still can't be totally relied on.

We should be looking to strengthen central defence anyway so maybe he's thinking that he should go in case what happened to Erik happens to him and he spends even more years as a reserve.

Would prefer he stayed and we got another top quality defender in who's not as injury prone as the others.

Yeah I still find if he's given too much time on the ball then there's a brain fart in him. I think he's improved a lot and would like him to stay and progress but we'll make a tidy profit should he decide to go.

Would like to see us sort out Centre half positions in the next two windows, we have enough money to ensure we start the next qualifiers with a stable partnership
If Boyata wants to go then fair enough, put his fee towards his replacement, Erik too.
Not sure what's happening with Jozo but if he isn't able to be regularly available then he becomes third choice or gets sold.

I'd be surprised if we didn't get the VvD sell on money in Jan as well.

So that's Gordon, Lustig, Boyata, Sviatchenko, Simunovic, Armstrong, Bitton, Roberts and Dembele all to be replaced in the next two windows, as well as another centre-half, back-up left back, striker and winger? Easy, get it done Peter Lawwell. Might as well replace Sinclair and Tierney while we're at it.

Do we get it all in one tranche though?

Might depend on how the transfer payments are structured.

I've honestly no idea. I imagine if we know we're getting it though we could "spend" the money.

I am not, repeat NOT, an accountant.

Boyata had played very little football before we signed him which in itself is a bit of a mystery. He’s improved dramatically under BR and has played way more games for us than he did in the previous 4 seasons. As somebody mentioned earlier, it’s only now he’s got his career on track and he might want to cash in, if a notably bigger pay day is in the offing.

Every player makes mistakes but making one that leads to us losing a goal, generally comes in for much more criticism than a somebody missing a sitter at the other end. No hiding place for a ‘keeper or a defender. Just the way it is and always has been.

No disputing central defence is currently the weakest area of the team, though domestically we can get away with it. Would like us to have a strong reliable partnership playing regularly there. With Jozo’s ongoing fitness a big concern, Boyata is clearly the best we have. Erik had regressed before his injury, Tierney and Lustig have played CB but that weakens other areas. I think we’ll sign a CB in the coming window and we might well lose one.

Our recent retention rate is outstanding.

Gordon, Jozo, Erik, KT, Armstrong, Paddy, Forrest, Rogic, Dembele have each been strongly rumoured to be on the verge of moves at some point(s) since BR arrived. They're all still here and several have signed new deals (along with Lustig, DDV, Brown, Johnston and McGregor).

Boyata took some convincing to sign. I suspect he thought he could get a move to a better league than Scotland and no doubt part of the negotiation was that we could facilitate that. Thing is, he's getting international call ups, CL football, probably offered a decent wage rise. I'm not sure he'll be in a rush to move on just yet.

I was hoping he'd end up like Lustig and stay for years, similar standard of player, both very good but not so good that big clubs will be in for them. The rumours are worrying, I'd hate to see him leave after what's been a fantastic turnaround for him.

Given how hopeless he was until Brendan worked his magic, I'd feel the same about him wanting to jump ship now as I have felt over every player we have turned into stars in one season, ie GTF: you owe us at least 2 seasons. Forster, Wanyama, VVD, Dembele - minimum 2 seasons. Better still he stays long term.
