Boyata represents the paradigm for the Rodgers effect on Celtic. Under Ronny he looked like an athlete, but not much else. Even then his athleticism was not consistent because he looked so low in confidence and awareness. He looked panicked in the tackle, particularly with runners coming at him, got caught under the ball and out of position a lot. I am sure the phrase ‘bambi on ice’ was applied on at least one occasion. His passing out of defence was inconsistent at best and occasionally, genuinely terrifying!

Under Brendan we have a calm, composed, powerful centre half who has much better positional sense, a great burst of pace and who is a genuine goal threat at set pieces. He looks confident in the tackle and in his partnership with Jozo. He now looks so much better i his awareness and reading of the game and his passing has dramatically improved. He looks like a proper centre half who can actually play football. You’d need to pay an awful lot of money to find a centre half with his attributes.

Boyata is to be commended for his commitment and his willingness to buy in to the Rodgers philosophy, but there’s no doubt the key change is the quality of the coaching he has received from Rodgers and the team. It’s a wonderful thing to see and should give us the hope that despite the challenges of playing in the SPFL, we can hope to create and develop teams that compete at the top level.

Great game last night, strolled it.

More evidence of the quite profound effect Brendan Rodgers has on players.

Last time I posted in this thread was in January just after he started back in team and I commented he has all the tools to be an excellent centre half but I have doubts he can eliminate the lack of concentration and poor passing from his game but fair play to players and club as he seems on the whole to have done that. Defence looks 10 times more solid when he and Jozo play together. Seem to complement each other perfectly
