I think it would be fine to play him on Saturday although I do always feel as if he's put under pressure he's liable to a brain fart moment.

Would it be better for his sake to bring him on for the last half hour at Ibrox rather than start him? God knows we'll need a better defence for the Anderlecht game than against the tribute act.

He was absolutely fine. Not that he was tested much right enough.
He wasn't absolutely fine. He was very ropey in the first half. Totally understandable but would have been punished by a good team. Hopefully he gets 90 minutes on Saturday to prepare him for Anderlecht.

Having him back also gives a much more potent threat at set pieces. I'd play him on Saturday without any hesitation. He is needed for the challenges ahead, so the sooner we get him match fit, the better.

Oh, and if he plays on Saturday, he'll score.

Sure, he made a couple of sloppy passes on his first game back but we immediately looked more defensively solid. He filled the role that Brown has often been covering just in front of the centre halves controlling possession. I thought he did it generally very well. It also gave Brown more freedom and he played better as a result.

He completely missed a cross into the box that Dundee should have scored from.

He was tracking a front post runner

Sviatchenko is a far less error prone defender. Boyata had a great 5 months last season but he still gives me the absolute fear, especially with his distribution. I'm shocked by Brendan's comments about Boyata being our number 1 defender. For me Jozo is streets ahead of Boyata and Sviatchenko and we should be looking to upgrade on both.

Aye, went with his man and somebody (Lustig, or even Forrest) should have been covering behind.

Erik doesn't make as many unforced errors as Boyata does, but Erik doesn't beat folk in the air or offer the goal threat that Boyata does

Eric , when he first came, was a very different player from the one we last saw playing . He has completely lost it since the first game at Snake Mountain, and he is prone to horrendous lapses of concentration and errors. His injury which has kept him sidelined this last 6 weeks was one of the most ludicrous , self inflicted injuries I think I've ever seen in top level football. Boyata is a far better option right now.

I think he's quite a poor defender and always liable to give the opposition at least one chance per game due to a bad pass, but he has improved under Rodgers and hopefully will improve more this season.

If we are seeing out a game in Europe I'd be more confident keeping the opposition at bay with Sviatchenko than I would with Boyata.

See Hapoel Beer Sheva.

Pity we can't get a defender who's good at both.
