Looked like last years Boyata yesterday. Passing was atrocious and completely lost his man for their goal.
Atrocious?
No worse than Brown's first half, and fine second.
There were misplaced passes all over the place yesterday. Think the surface had a lot to do with it.
Dembele and Sinclair were both tackled by the turf yesterday.
It's in a terrible state.

First time since he's been back in the side that a team have given him all that time on the ball. It's his definite weakness.

Malmö did it to great effect over in Sweden and it was done in a lot of the subsequent Europa League games. Hopefully we have the confidence and players in the team now who can take it from him and get the move going. Last year too many hid and it was a recurring feature of our game of Boyata giving it away.

Have a funny feeling he might pop up with a goal next weekend. Huns are awful from set pieces and will hate the way he attacks the ball.
His average pass completion in the Europa League was 93%.

His problem yesterday was the midfield hiding.
The completion rate isn't that surprising though. More often than not he ended up playing it to his centre back partner or square to someone else and it allowed the opposing team time to get back into shape and nullify any potential space being created. It was one of the worst features of Deila's team last year.

Despite the 93% completion rate, you have the examples of him crucially giving it away cheaply in games like Molde away or Inverness at home (twice in a short period) and costing us goals.

I still blame Deila and Bitton for that Molde goal.

Yes, and the jogging at snails pace with it was doing my box in.

Brendan wants the CB's to bring the ball forward. Until he has a pass/movement in front of him - he's going to take longer to release it.

Rather that than him panicking

He was taking too long to release the ball yesterday.
only because he had no options whatsoever to pass to.

sviatchenko getting ragdolled by sutton yesterday was the bigger problem

I don't disagree. This is the boyata thread though. I rate Boyata and think Sviatchenko is the weakest of the three centre backs. However his passing was poorer yesterday which was down to him taking too long in the ball.

Obviously it contributed. However boyata was also too slow to release the ball.

Not saying he didn't take long in possession but I think there was a lack of movement ahead of him which resulted in him taking longer to release the pass.

There was one occasion he tried a pass and just before he hit it, it bobbled on a divit. There were quite a few examples of this yesterday and as others have stated I think that's the worst I've seen the pitch in long, long, time.

I don't think the time Boyata spent in possession led to a poor execution of a pass. It may have stagnated the tempo of the play but not in terms of his passing completion.

Boyata didn't have a great day yesterday but he wasn't alone.

He was and I think this was exacerbated by his first few passes being terrible and the crowd getting on his back. He then tried to ensure everything was accurate after that which meant he took too long moving it.

I thought Sviatchenko, defensively, was miles worse than him in the first half though. Boyata at least pulled off a great saving tackle. He was due a poor game and he wasn't alone in being poor in the first 45 yesterday.

He went a decent run of games without errors but the poor passing has been evident in the last few games. Needs to up his concentration levels, but he's still young so hopefully he'll develop that with experience.

Oops, thought he was younger! Still think he needs more experience.

On a sidenote, Paddy Roberts should look at Boyata and see how Man City can eff up a young player's career.

Roberts will have more options down south than sitting in the stand at City.

He will end up at a Stoke or Crystal Palace.

Again I agree about Sviatchenko but this is the Boyata thread. I've said many times that I don't think Sviatchenko is all that good.

That would be an absolute waste.

Seems like the kind of player that needs to be in a winning team, kind of like Sinclair.

Relegation / mid-table fodder in England has no room for luxury players.
