Much better today, don't remember him giving the ball away at all
His first pass to Erik went out the park.
Yup. A bit dodgy early on but soon strolled it.
Yeah that's down to confidence again. He's been playing well so the crowd will afford him the odd mistake when previously one mistake and the whole stadium would have been gasping which would result in Boyata being scared to take the ball.

As you say he shrugged it off and got better as the game went on. Loved his little jink between two players in the second half. Confidence is up and we're now seeing the best of him

Sat pretty near the front in the main stand away up the other end - hard to tell from there if it was the pass or Erik who was to blame for that. Fair enough if it was Boyata.

I think it was one of those when Eric was just about to move back, the pass was hit in front of him. Made it look bad, but don't think it was.

Whatever anybody's opinion is, there's no denying the big man has made notable improvement. Can he sustain it and make further headway is a question that we should be better placed to answer at the end of the season. Centre back pairings are normally a mainstay of good teams and are rarely changed throughout the season but at this time our top pairing is debatable. Depending on events in the summer, the debate might intensify.

In the meantime we are watching a player, the vast majority of us on here didn't expect to feature much again, if at all, playing well.
Centre back has been incredibly interesting this year.

O'Connell started very impressively and was unfortunate to lose his place and then disappear from contention.

Toure looked like our best signing and now is lucky to feature on the bench.

Simunovic looked out the door and then suddenly became first choice.

Boyata was nowhere before becoming an automatic pick.

Sviatchenko has arguably been our most consistent defender and yet isn't guaranteed a place.

So much change and so many turnarounds.

Efe Ambrose to get back in and captain us to the treble. You heard it here first!
We were discussing this yesterday -

Boyata is best a rhs cb and as Brendan says "has the jersey" and I don't see him losing it anytme soon the way he is playing.

Simunovic is also best at rhs cb and not so good when he is on the left.

Svaitchencko was deservedly dropped after Snake Mountain - A warning he has to up his game - He comes back in and is playing very well again and he can play on the lhs.

Simunovic is highly rated by Brendan but he (Brendan) is on record he wants another CB in - Quite possibly something in Remy's take on matters re Jozo.
Has Remy expanded on this?

I've heard a lot of chat about Jozo being available in last window and now next window.

Is the suggestion that we want to move him on or that he is keen to leave. Surprised that either would be the case

The issue with Erik is his use of the ball. He's a no nonsense CB and not the type Brendan would prefer whilst in possession. That's why would suggest he would be third choice if we have everyone fit

I think Rodgers is getting us to the stage that selling Simunovic or Sviatchenko is far more palatable than it was 6 moths ago.

Wouldnt surprise me if we did sell either (or both) with Rodgers wanting better footballers in their position.

Whilst both players have excelled this season, i dont think either have the position nailed down and Rodgers will no doubt have someone in mind to come in.

If we can bring in good money, Rodgers has shown with Boyata that we can take that money and reinvest safe in the knowledge we will have a strong centre back at the club regardless.

Not so sure about that re Jozo - Brendan rates Simunovich highly - The issue seems to be Jozo already thinks he can do better than Celtic I believe.

I didn't dismiss him out of hand as others had done at the end of last season but I just never thought you could see the transformation that we have seen over the past few games. Astonishing.

Both, I'd say. The influence that Toure is having on the defence is fantastic. It's got to the stage that I don't even panic when we're passing it around at the back. We are brave in possession and a joy to behold at the moment.

Renaissance Man.

So composed and assured in defence, passes more than adequately, strong when in possession and a threat from corners..................

Just looks quality nowadays.

I seem to remember that when Boyata was signed, it being said that he was an even better defender than Denayer. Weeks later we all seemed to know that was tosh.
But since his displays from January onwards, we would have to agree with that comparison now.

Brendan seems to make players play without fear. Some players are so confident they don't give a eff if they mess up, some are worriers.

Under Ronnie, Boyatta made one mistake and turned into a quivering wreck.

Brendan has turned a player, previously seen as a joke, in to our best central defender. Amazing.
