The question remains, as to whether he can do it in a high stakes game, but in the meantime, Brendan Rodgers appears to have instigated the most unlikely transformation.

"We didn't sign Denayer......
I thought last night was a high stakes game?

At least that's what a few posts alluded too before kick off.

This is getting silly now. You can go back to page 40 or 50 on this thread and compare comments about Boyata with now. He was awful, like, objectively so. It didn't seem like a confidence issue, it seemed like an ability issue. It doesn't make any sense. Nothing is real any more.
He was only "objectively" piss poor in the eyes of KDS posters who as ever rush to judgement and know what is going on on the training ground and probably more importantly inside a player's head. I don't believe that he was not a football player and Brendan turned him into one. The fact that he was on the books at Man City says he was at least of a basic standard.

It seems to me that it was all a matter of confidence and Brendan realised that. I think that is shown by the scenes at the end last night when Brendan singled him out and forced him over to take his deserved applause.
That's what I mean, we may as well close down the talking shop now. Bad players aren't actually crap, they just haven't met Brendan yet.

I was never one for calling him utterly useless or whatever but could more than understand why folk would given the amount of chances and goals he cost us. He was bad, it was just a fact.

He made quite a few mistakes but unlike the likes of Efe not many of those mistakes actually cost us goals on a regular basis.

I dunno if that's the case or not but the fact Ambrose is the bar shows what regard he was held in.

One real test will be how he handles his next error.

The difference between his current performances and his form last year is utterly astonishing.
All about confidence
Exactly. He was mercilessly targeted by the opposition from goal kicks because they knew he would cough it up. A real vicious circle. Not now though. No sirree Bob.

nah. he cost an absolute shampooload of goals in a short space of time. way more than efe until he had his usual brainfart against fenerbahce

the criticism was in no way harsh or undeserved. this was only a few months ago https://twitter.com/LilZe7/status/768487115223162880

the praise he is getting now is equally deserved

This. He was awful at times. But he rightly deserves the praise he's getting just now. He was excellent last night.

He was genuinely brutal. Big physical centre half who wasn't comfortable on the ball and was prone to quite a few errors per game, moreso than Efe - though Efe's did tend to be bigger.

It's been an absolute transformation and it's mental. While he must've had something to get picked up by Man City their fans thought he was an absolute calamity too. Great to see and Rodgers forcing him to the fans last night was a great touch. To think some are bemoaning his man management in relation to Griffiths.

Boyata has, and always had, far more scope to be a player than Ambrose.

HE was awful at times and lapses in concentration cost you as we all know agaInst European teams and 3/4 teams who test us domestically.

Big man is getting well deserved praise but I still think Erik/Jozo is our best pairing. All for seeing one of our players do well but would still not trust him in Europe at this point. Keep playing and silly mistake free until end of season and chat will be different.

To be fair, it's easy to understand him being nervous coming from Man City to Celtic.

It's a big step up.

If he keeps his place he will make mistakes, just as Erik would if he came back. Van Dijk had his fair share but seemed to brush them off. It's the type of mistakes he makes and if he can react well to it.

Think Rodgers looked at it objectively as well, unlike us he's in a position to influence it and deserves a lot of credit. He may well have saved us millions in the summer in how Boyata and Gordon have responded.

stuck a spare £3 in my paddy power account on him for first scorer last night at 16s - £51 notes to play with now.
I got 33's from Betfred yesterday afternoon, and had a wee swatch at half time in the stadium and Ladbrokes were offering 28's on their first goal in the 2nd half coupon. I'm not much of a gambler but is it often you get such big differences in odds?
