Boyata's always been a solid defender. I can't recall any performances of his where he's made howlers defensively. His mistakes have been with the ball at his feet, and in that regard he was hung out to dry by Deila with his tactics of two at the back and centre halves running into midfield. Boyata can't do that. But let him defend and play Simunovic beside him and he'll thrive.

One thing about Boyata is that he is very strong in the air. He won everything v St J, and dominated the Hearts CF (Johnsson?). I sometimes think concentration and composure are issues for him, but he doesn't give me the fear.
He's a basic safety-first kind of defender and I like that about him.

Still think Erik and Jozo are first pick, but Boyata is a capable alternative.

Boyata has all the physical atributes to be a very good centre back. He is also better on the ball than some of our fans will give him credit for. Despite this he looked so bad at times last season every fan can be forgiven for wanting shot of him or labelling him a bombscare. Brendan obviously sees something to work with and we shouldn't forget that even though he is 26 Boyata hasn't played a lot of football. Maybe Rodgers thinks that with the proper coaching he'll be worth keeping in and around the team. Or maybe he's trying to polish him enough so we can sell him on. Either way, a quick 6'2 Belgian internationalist centre back who is also good in the air will be an asset to us.

He's currently the rock at the back and actually looks more composed and stable than either Simunovic or Sviatchenko.

Boyata's resurgence has been nothing short of incredible. Of course you have to credit the manager but the player himself deserves an enormous amount of credit for sitting in reserve for months working hard to improve and taking his chance. Thought there was no hope for him but he now looks like a totally different player. Well done to all.

Outstanding again. Said before he was never as bad as people said last season but he was nowhere as good as this. Some performance.

Absolutely love having defenders who're a threat in attack. Hope he can keep this form up.
