Calm and assured, what a turn around, just shows you what a good manager can get out of players.

Boyata has all the tools required, height, pace, strength, power, great in the air and such a presence at the heart of the defence, I honestly couldn't see it in him at all but I did lose track of the amount of times i said last season "how can a guy who's been at City for so many years be incapable of passing a ball 5 yards"

Rodgers like he did with Armstrong and Gordon instructed them on how he wants the to play, what he expects from them; he has allowed them to work hard in the back ground and he has shown that if they look like they're learbing in training then he'll give them a chance to do it in the park, that's a great incentive for every single Celtic player IMO

Didn't realise he's 26. He's not had a great deal of first team experience before joining us so that (and Deila) might explain his lapses and inconsistency. Doing everything right at the moment and long may it continue.

Absolute rock yesterday.
And looked quite classy with most of his passing and composure.

Looking at his Wiki page, for someone of 26, he has played very little first team football due to injuries and never being settled at a club - only around 60 first team starts - I think if he goes on to stay in the starting XI for a period of time and looks secure at CB then BR will have turned him around in the same way as Forrest and Armstrong. Still too early to judge one way or the other, but the signs are hopeful. Aberdeen might test him a bit more on Wednesday depending on how they set up.

Really think his pace makes him preferable to Rodgers than Erik. Honestly don't think Rodgers has ever fully rated Erik and wouldn't be that surprised if he stayed 3rd/4th choice when we get someone else in over the summer.

Erik had been in top form this season up until two errors against them, one of which they punished us for.
However, having been suspended, I agree that if your replacement plays well enough then they shouldn't be dropped.
Which makes it hard for Armstrong, Dembele, Rogic and Griffiths to get back in too. ;)

That's my feeling too, without much evidence to back it up. I just think Brendan feels Boyata offers more to work with than Erik does. The next few weeks will tell.

Agreed. I said it yesterday half joking, but Boyata has very similar qualities to Kolo - he's a far cry from that level yet, but his pace, strength, athleticism and generally keeping it very basic is a great start (restart?).

Boyata is great insurance to have if Jozo does leave in the summer. Suddenly, we've got competition for places across our entire defence.

Good to see a defender who is agressive in the air in defence and attack. Brendan Rodgers continues to work miracles...

This seems like a fair point, backed up by the form of almost our entire squad last season with the exception of Rogic, KT, Griff and Erik.

If a player is given clear instructions on his role and is assured that the players around him know their roles equally as well and where an available pass / run will be coming from at all times it makes it much easier for him to play the game.

Under RD it seemed like no one had a clue as to where they were going or where they were meant to be.

Is Deila to blame for Ambrose as well?

Boyata isn't good enough for Celtic, 3 decent games (including a game against a team of semi-pro's) isn't enough to convince me otherwise. He'll get found out against a decent side, which he has been time and time again. hopefully his recent game time is nothing more than shop-window stuff although doubt it considering we've not blessed with many CB's at the moment

Don't get me wrong, Boyata's form since coming back has been positive but Ambrose could put a few decent games together too. Sviatchenko, Simunovic, Toure and Lustig are all better options at centre back in terms of consistency, I think similarly to Ambrose, Boyata is one mistake from being reinstated as a bombscare.

He's had three good games in a row. He deserves to start on Wednesday to see if he can maintain this.

Sviatchenko made loads of mistakes in december and had a shocker at Ibrox. Sumunovic probably won't be here next season, so Boyata should play to see if he can become consistent.

So he's played well in back to back games against the teams lying 5th and 4th in the league. I anticipate he'll get the nod on Wednesday too. If he survives that one, then is it the might rangers you expect him to get "found out" against?
