I've said it before in this thread but he's the most frustrating player in the current team. For me he's got the talent but far too many times I find myself shouting "WTF are you doing Forrest". That said he's been very good recently I'm hoping the coaching staff and manager are saying to him "See you are a decent player. Now start talking games by the scruff of the neck."

I have been highly critical of Forrest but he's been really great. I still think in the Fenerbache game though, I would've liked to see him run at the fullback more after he got booked but maybe the Hearts game at the weekend played in to that. Done some really good defensive work to help Tierney too. Long may it continue.

That probably says more about you than it does Forrest.

He's been our best player in nearly every game he's played in this season. Criminally underrated by some. He really helped Tierney as well, talked him through the game.
See how some people go a bit too far in slating players, this guff about him being our best player in blah blah is just the same.

True, but he is closer to our best than he is our worst. Which has never been a popular thing to say.

Reality is mundane and disappointing. Especially when it comes to a football forum, it helps to go completely overboard and hysterically make out that players are always either unbelievably terrible or astonishingly brilliant and there's nothing in between. The mentalness and lack of balance of it all helps distract from the fact that we are discussing a silly game which is ultimately pointless.

I want to get excited by James Forrest but every time I do his his injury jinx seems to strike.
Undoubtedly he is a fine, capable footballer who has the ability to bring flair and verve to the side. He has demonstrated that he can score quality goals, so what's not to like?
Every injury breakdown sets him back to an extent where I feel it's unfair to be expecting him to hit the heights that he has. Just as he seems to be getting up to speed, playing himself back in, another injury occurs.
Almost as if to avoid further disappointment, I look at him more than in hope than expectation these days, which is sad for a player still relatively young.
There is no question that an injury free James Forrest would be a regular first pick and a contributor of note to our cause, but he really needs a spell unhindered by injury to build a consistent run of games for me to see him other than an occasional man on the periphery.
God knows we need his kind of creativity when he is at his best.

It's his decision-making and intelligence that are suspect, not his talent. If he could marry his undoubted talent to doing the right thing at the right time then he'd take his game to the next level.

We will all be saying the same things about wee Jamesy in 2 or 3 years time, if he gets a new contract.

An earlier poster said he has no game intelligence - this is very true.

He also has no ambition.

He is content with mediocrity and playing to 60 to 70% of his potential.
The humble pie is finished. Here's a wee bit of choob cake.
  I liked that

That said he's been very good recently I'm hoping the coaching staff and manager are saying to him "See you are a decent player. Now start talking games by the scruff of the neck."

The manager shares your frustration and the player has had more reason to be frustrated than anyone. Now there is light at the end of the tunnel and it's not the glue factory..

RONNY DEILA watched James Forrest terrorise a team of top class Turks on Thursday night with a glow of satisfaction that could not be dimmed by the loss of two goals that cost his team a Europa League victory.

He’s looking at the bigger picture, you see, and the Celtic manager is convinced his club are about to see the very best of a talent that he admits could have been lost to the game only 12 months ago when Forrest was seemingly unable to shake off injury after injury.

But the winger, now fit for the past eight months, is back in the Scotland team and playing the part for Celtic that Deila always hoped he would. But feared he wouldn’t.

Trouble with pelvic and hamstring problems left the 24-year-old on the sidelines for so long that many wondered if he would ever come back. Deila was one of them.

Asked if Forrest might not have made it through his injury hell, Deila said: “Yes, of course. The work that the medical staff have done has been fantastic and so important.

“Also the communication has been so important now between the medical staff and me and that we are always doing what is best for him so we can see the best of James. One year ago he was not a happy football player. Everyone talks about potential but how many times have we seen it?

“On Thursday you saw a player who worked hard defensively and who caused them problems defensively.

“There is a lot of talk about results here and I really understand that, it is no problem. But as a coach you have to see behind it and what is actually happening now is that you can see a James Forrest.

“When have you seen him like that? I haven’t seen him even near to what he is now.

“I said in the past that he needs time because he was down for so long injury-wise and it takes time to get back again. Now he has been injury free for eight months.

“He has had small things but nothing major and he has been consistent in training.

“Before, in the games he played he was giving me heartache because we didn’t see the intensity we needed to see - but if he was not fit enough, it wasn’t there and also he was afraid to get injuries.

Forrest has performed well in Celtic's opening Europa League matches
“He had to get over that boundary to understand that nothing was going to happen and he could give 100%. The development he has had over the last month has been tremendous.

“When he gets 100% in training and in matches then we have a top, top player and he can do it at that international level.

“Now we have control of him but we are not even close to being there. In my opinion he is 50% of what he can be. Now we just have to keep on building but that takes time.”

Looking more like the breakthrough James Forrest, needs a couple of goals I reckon then he'll be flying.

Really hope his injury (and flashing) days are over!

I've slated James on numerous occasions in here.

I'm delighted with the turn around and the fact he seems to be adding consistency to his game. Still got a bit to go to prove it over a longer period but encouraged by what I've seen the past couple weeks.

Keep it up wee man
