Ajax rb has pace and can hit the byline.
He never showed that tonight, wonder why that was.

Tried a few times to take the full back on but struggled badly.

The Ajax player was just too strong and fast for James.

Should be showing a lot more brains than simply running in straight lines, doesn't offer for the ball or prepare to make runs off the ball enough for me.

At 24 he should be showing a lot more game intelligence than he is currently. Ajax are poor defensively and I feel we could have caused them a helluva lot more problems than we did.

Showed me last night he's poor against a full back with pace. Saying it again his stamina is poor. Can run fast. But don't give him the ball for the next five minutes. In this standard of game

Could we not try him as a striker, could be back up for Griffiths if he can find a goal every now and then.

It's not like we have options.

I reckon he'd be a very good striker in a 442
I'd like to see him given a go as the front 1 in the RD team but the boss clearly sees him on the left side cutting in

Probably because his shooting is weak as piss.

I always feel like he could give a bit more in games. Doesn't work hard enough for me off the ball, kinda strolls around. Looks like a guy who's very happy with where he's at.

he plays best on the right side. he loses a huge part of his effectiveness on the left. Beats me why we didn't switch Commons and Forrest on Wednesday, when it became apparent that the Ajax right back was a flier. Commons would have given him more to think about than pace ( well everything except pace), and Forrest would have been on his natural side. Guess that's why I keep shop while Deila manages Celtic.

You're not wrong but maybe we felt Jamesy pace would be better from a defensive point of view given they're right full back was rapid?

Did you keep shop during the Strachan era when Nakamura was under-utilised on the right?

It's one of the most frustrating apects of the "modern game" for me, and it doesn't really work unless you are Cristiano Ronaldo, Arjen Robben or near that level.
James Forrest is a talented right winger with genuine pace, and a moderately talented left winger with no left foot.

I agree mate  if you have a player who is genuinely two footed, or will mostly look to cut inside to create then that's when you switch them.

Otherwise, you end up with a one footed winger determined to run on the outside knowing full well he can't cross with his opposite foot. Or you end up with Johansen at Pittodrie last week taking age to control the ball, get it on his left foot and pass it.

I would have loved to see Nakamura playing on the left or in the middle consistently.

He's matured in the sense that he's a much better team player. Does a very good job defensively which is vital for European away games. Also has the pace to worry on the counter attack. Never been Forrest's biggest fan but he's impressed me this season.

Needs to take off his blinkers, any semi-decent defender will soon learn he runs in straight lines...surely simple enough to stagger your run, cut inside or play the ball off the defender for a throw-in.

If he didn't have any pace he wouldn't be with Celtic, how long it will keep him here is anyone's guess...needs to smarten up

Aside from everything else mentioned, the thing about that really annoys me is the way he constantly runs his fingers through his hair  commons always does it as well.
