One of the improvements Deila has made, is that James Forrests first team place is under threat. For 3 years we have been praying this boy gets fit to start the big games. Now we are moving on and if James doesn't get with the program he is outta here. I'm hopeful that Deila and the back room staff are working on stopping the injuries because a fully match fit Forrest is a real threat to the opposition

James Forrest is a good player. Had no impact in one game in which we're down to ten men and he's just back from long term injury...suddenly he's the new Satan.

Gee him a break FFS.

Agreed

He was rotten tonight but he's on a long road back. Maybe he should spend all warm up time clapping the crowd. Works for Guidetti.

Slightly more important debates to be had than Forrests performance as a lone striker in a 10 man team at the San Siro.

He's always on that long road back from injury, though. I worry that it'll get to the point where the coming-back-from-injury-Forrest just becomes normal Forrest. His development has already been hindered.

Laziness bordering on arrogance. Better than he thinks he is and refused to put a shift in for the team tonight

Totally over the top reaction to a poor performance. Folk far too quick to get the knives out, especially on the match thread. Giving him pelters after being on the pitch 2 minutes. :cuckoo:

For me, it is not about tonight.

The guy is simply not good enough and 'flashes' of brilliance 5 or so years ago don't justify him still being anywhere near the Celtic squad. His application in games is awful and this 'coming back from injury/needs games' line is getting tedious. The injuries, I feel, paper over the cracks of him just not being good enough.

When I see his name on the team-sheet I get the fear and if he is on the bench I hope that he doesn't come on.

I know it looks like a bit of a witch-hunt against him or he is tonights 'scape goat' but I just feel like enough is enough with him.

He's always been in that 'long road back' from somewhere.

It's just a shame that when he gets to the end of that road, its a dead end with his only option being a bus waiting to leave for mediocre street

He stinks

It shouldn't look like a witch-hunt. He is constantly recovering from injury. This is a fact. The line about him needing time is tedious. When he does play everything is half hearted probably through fear of another injury which ironically doesn't help. As pointed out in the post match thread, effort is the minimum requirement from a Celtic player and putting in the effort he did tonight doesn't mean Johansen played well. Something I happen to agree with. Effort is the minimum requirement and Forrest did not do the minimum when he came on.

I saw it a bit differently, he looked very frustrated at some of the service he was getting and there was one incident where he quite rightly voice his frustration.

I think we all know that Forrest has ability, he is also unfortunate when it comes to injury. I would give him a full season next season under Deila with a decent 6 month spell or so without any injury to prove what he can do.

He is probably more frustrated than any supporter at his lack of progress and development because of his injury prone career so far but I think Deila can really contribute towards getting the best from him.

If you gave Forrest even a dose of the pessimistic nonsense you reserve for other players he'd have been out the door before he reached his twenties.

Forrest is a younger version of Derk. Except Boerrigter seemingly was a decent player back in the day.

I don't think it's possible to say he's a good player anymore because he has done nothing for two seasons now. He could be a good player if he was fit, confident and on form but those three things never seem to coincide for James.

My problem with him tonight is that he hid. There were times when he could have made himself available for a pass and he didn't. He was meant to be our outball and he deliberately disappeared a few times when he should have shown for the ball. Allowances should be made for his lack of match sharpness, but that is unforgivable.

A good player? Briefly, once upon a time and potentially again. Until then, gutless performances like tonight are unacceptable.

I probably am a simpleton I don't dribble [yet] But I've watched Celtic since the 50's James is not very good.

Some of the revisionism on here is mental.

Must just be Forrest's turn now, along with Ambrose.

Not playing well at all, but he's just coming back from an injury. On his game he's as good as anything we've got, but if he can't keep himself fit them I'd be looking to punt in the summer.

The problem tonight was that he shirked his one responsibility: making himself available as an outball. That's nothing to do with his match sharpness and everything to do with his mentality.

I'm generally a fan of his and stick up for him, but he hid tonight and that's beyond the pale.

I'm not defending his performance tonight. I'm talking about comments like:

Quote:

He is abysmal

Hasn't progressed since coming into the first team

Here's a question, as i reckon we will get rid of one, not two, due to the home grown status, who would you punt, McGregor or Forrest.

I would have said McGregor by a mile until recently, now I'm not so sure.

I really don't see him "making it" tbh... He'll never fulfil his potential, and it's a real shame.
