From other players reactions I got the impression they didn't fancy Forrest taking it and wanted him to hand it over. I'd had a few beers by then so maybe that wasn't the case I know Guidetti was just as selfish and wanted it for himself but I hoped Brown would step up to take the penalty to shut the pair up.

This penalty stuff is so amateurish it has happened under MON, GS, NL and now RD too. It's a squad game nowadays so it's not good enough to just have 1 or 2 penalty takers. If a penalty is awarded then everyone on the park should know who takes it. Of course RD may have covered this beforehand and if so and Forrest wasn't the penalty taker then he needs his arse booted. Had it been 0-0 i'm convinced Guidetti would still have wanted to take it. Not so convinced Forrest would have. I had 3-0 to Celtic yesterday so that may be making me slightly more annoyed though Ajax in the CL escape you?

I agree with B Peru. This is something we've got wrong for years. There should be a pecking order beyond the first two takers, which should mean we always know exactly who takes what. No histrionics, no " hat trick" takers, no glory hunters. Simple order which only changes if anyone misses a few. That's way too straightforward and sensible. It's egotistical football players we're talking about here.

Another game under his belt, kept it simple, nice finish and while a poor penalty, he made a difference.
Bawman, I admire your charity. If only the arrogance displayed by him today in absolutely insisting on taking the penalty, was mirrored in his general play over a long, long period of time. He would be a world class player. His mis-placed arrogance is, in my opinion, breathtaking. On what basis did he earn the right to take that penalty and insist, over several objections, from a variety of players, to do so. With that insistence comes responsibility. He failed big time. The DU keeper did not move his feet other that to make the save. In a cup final. I have no idea how a player who cannot earn a regular place, quite rightly, in any team can come on the pitch and insist on taking that penalty in a cup final. Discraceful. All you need to do now is rip down the curtains and make yourself a dress. eh.. will do.

Ajax in the CL escape you? Nope. I think he's clearly been low on confidence recently and the crowd have been on his back. Don't think he would be rushing to take a penalty at 0-0.
Maybe i'm wrong, we'll never know.

Seems to be missed that thanks to Forrest's composed, accurate first time finish for the second goal (something our forward players have been painfully lacking in many games this season) the penalty was largely immaterial. It would have been gloss on a result which was already known. He won the penalty. With Griffiths and Commons both off the pitch he was entitled to take it in that situation. I'd rather he worked on what he did with the penalty rather focus on the fact he denied others a chance to take it. Variously, he stood up to Guidetti and Johansen in actually insisting on taking it. Neither are exactly shrinking violets. For a player with apparently "no heart or fight" - copyright various - he showed enough stones to tell them both to piss off. That's fair enough by me. Missing it though, well that kinda ruined things. It was a miserable attempt. Pitiful.
He will not progress at Celtic and be awful happy.. no 'content'.. in the English Championship.
Or wherever.
Even he doesn't really mind.
It's a shame.

The whole incident was pretty pathetic. Forrest, who's barely kicked a ball for over a year, had a good cameo coming on and scoring and winning the penalty. If he'd walked away with that this thread would be completely about him kicking on for the rest of the season and competing with GMS for a starting spot. Now, well, I'm sticking with my opinion that I'm not overly bothered whether I see him playing for Celtic again. I was delighted he got his goal on Sunday, but while he wasn't 100% to blame for the farce over the penalty, it just reminded me about his attitude issues which I can't be bothered with. He's not good enough to justify not tracking runners and he's certainly not good enough to carry on the way he did on Sunday.
I'm fed up waiting for him to improve on his 2010 raw talent. Time to go in the summer. And just for fairness, Guidetti needs to take his share of the blame too, but I've got a feeling he's just a sack.

Some of the comments on here about James Forrest are ridiculous and shameful. You'd never think we won a cup final.

Nope, it's still a pile of complete unmitigated nonsense.

In the Scotland squad.
This I do not understand. He's been selected as one of the collection of players chosen for the next set of Scottish international matches, but that's not important right now.

not sure who the reporter thinks will be ahead of him tonight from thise available. would be surprised if he doesnt start
- Quote:
-
HE used to inflict fear and doubt — but lately that’s what he has been suffering from.
James Forrest was once a winger who had pace which scared the living daylights out of defenders.
But recently Forrest, 25, is the one who has been living in fear.
Celtic ace Forrest has had two years of pain and torment with one muscle strain after another.
But getting the all clear physically hasn’t been as tough as MENTALLY believing he can push himself to the limit.
Hoops gaffer Ronny Deila is desperate to see Forrest beat his demons and emerge fitter and stronger than ever. But he knows he may have to bide his time.
Deila said: “James has been very afraid. When you have been out two of the last four years with a lot of pulled muscles, you get frightened.
“We need to get James’ confidence and belief in himself back again. He’s working really hard with a very good attitude, and he is going in the right direction.
“So far we have managed to help him avoid pulled muscles for six months, but he has had other problems.
“When James gets a small injury like a knock on his knee, a twisted ankle or something, we have to stop because it affects his way of running.
“We have to be very careful with him until we can demand things. But now he is in a very good place.
“He played 90 minutes last Sunday, trained fully yesterday, trained today and he is available for the game on Wednesday. So I can see it is going to get better.
“It’s not in his head, but it has been. It’s psychological as well, but it’s more that James’ body hasn’t been balanced.
“He has to have a balanced and controlled body. That’s about his core. It’s about how to control high speed and changes of direction.
“The medical staff have been working really hard getting this right.
“James is working well and moving in the right direction but now he needs to play more football, be more on the pitch.
“But his physique is not even close to what it should be. If he plays 90 minutes, it takes five days to recover because he hasn’t played for such a long time.
“If I push him again, he gets another pulled muscle because he’s tired. You have to measure him all the time.
“James has to be honest with his body. We have to build him step by step, and that’s what we have been doing. Hopefully six months from now we can sit and be really excited about James Forrest.”
Forrest at full pelt is an exciting talent who gets fans on the edge of their seats.
But it’s been a while since he’s had the confidence or burst of acceleration to take on full-backs at pace.
Deila has been patient, but with the likes of Gary Mackay-Steven and Callum McGregor grabbing their chance you can’t help wonder if Forrest will be let go this summer.
The Hoops boss, though, insists he has not given up hope of seeing the winger getting back to his best.
Deila added: “It’s been a long time since James has been consistently good.
“We have been unbelievably patient with him because we have had to build him up from the bottom.
“It’s been hard work building his self-belief back up and convincing him he won’t get these injuries.
“It’s been slow but I was happy for him to score in the final last Sunday and win a penalty. But he is not even close to what he can be as a footballer.
“I am happy he is going in the right direction, but we know there are still things to work on. James has the right people around him, and we know if we get it right he will be a very important player for us.”
Forest is unlikely to start tonight’s Scottish Cup replay against Dundee United with others ahead of him.
But it will be interesting to see both line-ups, given how often these two teams have been facing each other lately.
This will be the third instalment of a four-game pile-up which must be tediously repetitive for fans being asked to pay good money.
Deila said: “It’s difficult for both teams. But I think the games have been OK, and I am looking forward to tomorrow again.
“You have to do the same things, but even better than we did last Sunday.
“One advantage is we don’t have to use as much time scouting and so on because we know each other quite well.
“The games are big and it’s important, so I don’t think familiarity will be a problem.”
Hoops fans can also rest assured their team didn’t celebrate last Sunday’s cup victory over United too much.
Deila added: “It was a good atmosphere. It was controlled. No lap-dancing, as far as I know!”

Some interesting quotes from the manager about Forrest there. I have given up on Forrest ever realising his potential with us. Obviously Ronny hasn't. Here's hoping he is correct.

A shame but the boy is simply not good enough. He'll still have a career tho in Division 1 in Ingland or the like, as his stock will still be relatively high from his successful loan spell at Notts County
