i like him but unreal decision to take the pen when we had 3-4 players better placed to take it, it is a cup final after all. nice goal though and hopefully he kicks on
I don't get this, HE won the penalty, we were 2-0 up, he had every right to take the penalty. ;)
I loved that in primary 3 myself.

Makers takers.

The people saying these things are people I respect as posters. :ffs:
I think I may have added to the reason why he should have hit the penalty.

We didn't play well today. not up to our recent standard anyway bar the St J game when Forrest had a nightmare as did the team.

Forrest could have scored 2 today in a final from a 20minute appearnce and given his St J horror show and the crowd on his back then, he's improving, I couldn't grudge him taking that penalty under the circumstances.

It was a shocker though even a primary 3 would have hit it better. ;)

Hard to really get annoyed at the penalty when I have absolutely no idea who our #1 choice is . Forrest . Guidetti, Commons. Bitton and Brown have all hit them in the recent past.
Like you I had no idea who our first choice was.

Using a condescending tone doesn't win you arguments.

Guidetti isn't our normal penalty taker. Took 2 out of 7.
Please explain?

Not being condescending btw.
"I should be used to you talking garbage" Yes. You are condescending.

Bitton took one while Griffiths, Commons and Guidetti had two each.

Seriously? Look it matters eff all in the grand scheme of things burst when Commons wasn't playing earlier in the season Guidetti was on the penalties and never missed. Granted it was only 2 or 3 but I would have assumed therefore he would still be on the pens if Commons wasn't on the park. Why does anyone think Forrest should have taken it?

If we are just letting anyone take it I would have had Virgil or Johansen taking it.

Chill your jets. Was merely pointing out I didn't know who would be taking pens today because it's been so varied all season.

95%* of the Celtic fans in the ground wanted Brown to take it.

*Could have been 94%

I have watched fitba since the" Kelly Kids" and seen some of the greatest players miss and take awful
penalty kicks, and never have they had they to take abuse from a section of the fans such as Forrest does. That tells me a lot about those so called fans.
From my recollection Forrest has taken two penalties scored one and missed one. So at the time of taking the penalty today he was batting 100%.
Nothing wrong with him wanting to take the penalty. He missed and lo and behold the James Forrest haters loved it.
Not a word about him taking the pressure off with his excellent strike. Just a great unwillingness to admit that this guy is talented

I wanted Brown to hit it. But I've no problem with JF not giving up the ball to JG or whoever, he won it and he's scored them before.

Aye, it was a crap pen......who cares though? We were 2-0 up and coasting.

Another game under his belt, kept it simple, nice finish and while a poor penalty, he made a difference.
Bawman, I admire your charity.

If only the arrogance displayed by him today in absolutely insisting on taking the penalty, was mirrored in his general play over a long, long period of time. He would be a world class player.

His mis-placed arrogance is, in my opinion, breathtaking.

On what basis did he earn the right to take that penalty and insist, over several objections, from a variety of players, to do so.

With that insistence comes responsibility. He failed big time. The DU keeper did not move his feet other that to make the save.

In a cup final.

I have no idea how a player who cannot earn a regular place, quite rightly, in any team can come on the pitch and insist on taking that penalty in a cup final.

Discraceful.

All you need to do now is rip down the curtains and make yourself a dress.

Yet he won the penalty and nobody with any authority or seniority took it off him. Looks like it might be the actual professional footballers playing 'makers takers'. I don't agree that's what should have happened, someone who had been on the pitch longer than 20 minutes should have taken it, or it should have drilled into the players beforehand who was taking penalties, but nobody stepped up. Nobody on the pitch said "makers takers? Shut up, nae neck", so fire in. Makers takers. He won it, he can take it if nobody else will. If Guidetti can't take the effing ball off James effing Forrest, that says more about him than it ever could about Jamesy. Jesus wept.

The main thing is that Forrest looked much better yesterday.

Bring back big Dan Majstorovic and let him hit the penalties.

If there had been a nominated penalty taker on the field at the time I doubt there would have been a dispute, though that still happens occasionally. In that case the captain should sort it out.

Penalties against Dundee Utd not been our strongest suit in the past week

Another perspective, if it was 0-0, Utd with 10 men and Forrest won the penalty, do you think Forrest would have grabbed the ball? I have my doubts.........
