Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
'Far better' is stretching it. Mackay-Steven was rotten for most of last season after his dead cat bounce when he signed. There never has or ever will be the prospect of him being good enough. Which is why the manager tried to offload him.
As I said before he had a run of ten games where he scored or assisted, so rotten is really stretching it. If you think Forrest was better than him over the previous 18 months then I think you're mental, but fair enough, let the revisionism begin, I'm just happy he's playing well. Forrest was frozen out for a large part of that time. And played out of position when he wasn't.
Bottom line is: new manager comes in and ties Forrest down while trying to offload Mackay-Steven. Had he listened to many on here we'd maybe had the delights of 'young' Gary shampooing it against Sevco again. Or maybe even Ross County.

I don't think it was necessarily always Forrest's attitude that was wrong, but he was totally devoid of belief playing under Deila and following some horrendous spells on the sidelines.
I'm delighted with the way he's playing just now, long may it continue.

And you and Remy are going way OTT in criticising GMS who came into the team last season and played at a higher level than Forrest had done for years. The excuses getting reeled out for Forrest's previous form are ridiculous. Bordering on accusing Deila and Collins for his lack of effort next.

GMS should never have been bought for Celtic he is just not good enough. Now Forrest under Deila not very good. Under Rodgers he is very good. It SURELY tells you something.

All the best to the wee man and glad to see him prove me (heavily) wrong but he joined a chunk of the squad in getting the slippers on under Deila. You might not respect the manager but respect the team and the fans. He never done that for any consistent period under Deila. I liked the guy but appreciate many didn't. Cannot suddenly warm to a player who chucked it under him and has now decided to try again. Just my take appreciate you are a fan.

The excuses getting reeled out for Forrest's previous form are ridiculous. Bordering on accusing Deila and Collins for his lack of effort next. I started talking about Mackay-Steven in this thread in the close season when I said I fully expected Forrest to move on given what had happened but if it were a choice I'd definitely keep Forrest over the 'never will be good enough' Mackay-Steven. I don't see how that is over the top. He was a player who wasn't selected for nearly a third of Dundee United's matches before we signed him and was notoriously streaky through his career. Despite this some people thought that Ronny Deila would be the man to turn this jobbing SPL player into a Celtic one.
There were very few people referencing Forrest's 'potential' showed, but even if they did his potential was to reach a level that he had played at which was much higher than Mackay-Steven had ever. Suggesting that a player may get back to where he has previously operated is much more likely than suggesting an inconsistent guy in his mid-20s who doesn't have any bottle is going to be a useful player to any great degree.
Sadly, Mackay-Steven is the Ronny Deila reign in microcosm. Looks like a good idea on paper. It's quite a romantic notion. Would be great if it worked. But unfortunately not good enough on various levels.

He was being managed by a couple of diddies. One of whom told him never to use the outside of his foot for shooting again. Forrest is a player who needs to be encouraged and feel wanted. Pulling his contract and benching him didn't help with that. He has always had the ability and talent despite what many on here say about him.
I don't think any on here have doubted his ability. I'll just leave this here...

I said on here about a year/year and a half ago that I just never seen what others did in this guy. I have always thought he was an empty jersey. An utterly gutless player that should be nowhere near Celtic
- adboy
-
I honestly don't think this boy has done anything to show that he has what it takes to be a footballer at any real level.
He can't cross, pass, tackle, defend or shoot and his petulant attitude is annoying now.
Anyone who still thinks he 'needs time' etc, IMO, is blinkered.
He is utterly garbage

-
For me, it is not about tonight.
The guy is simply not good enough and 'flashes' of brilliance 5 or so years ago don't justify him still being anywhere near the Celtic squad. His application in games is awful and this 'coming back from injury/needs games' line is getting tedious. The injuries, I feel, paper over the cracks of him just not being good enough.
When I see his name on the team-sheet I get the fear and if he is on the bench I hope that he doesn't come on.
I know it looks like a bit of a witch-hunt against him or he is tonights 'scape goat' but I just feel like enough is enough with him.

I don't think he has got what some others see in him, I just never thought he would amount to even half of what his 'potential' was bummed up to be. He might prove me wrong, however I think his chance to do so has passed.

I have been quite vocal about James Forrest on here. I don't care if everyone thinks the sun shines out his arse, I think he is pish and this 'he's carrying an injury, wait till he's at full fitness etc' crap that people peddle, to me, is just crap. He is utterly gutless - doesn't matter how fit he is, he's a bottle merchant.
And I maintain the stance that if he played for Rangers, he would be a laughing stock - the great white hype that was Chris Burke springs to mind.

A blind man could see that this guys 'potential' was nothing but a pack of lies told to everyone by his dad.
I notice the absence in the thread of some prominent posters that usually defend this clown? Where are you??
I've been saying for years that this guy never had the heart or desire. An utter shampoobag.
