I'm lost - how can a player who's had more shampoo seasons that good ones still be considered an 'asset' - it's entirely possible that he was a decent young player who had potential but never fulfilled it

Can anyone think of another promising teenager who finally found form after 4 seasons of being quite poor?

What is it people are seeing? Genuinely - he hasn't had a good game in years

We need talent - skill and ability in this team and we need it now, for Europe - I'm not saying the answer is GMS either but I do ask on a sincerity / how on earth can people still think Forrest is the answer?
For me, he was our biggest attacking threat in the CL qualifiers last year (easily) and was also the player most likely to carve an opening out of nothing for most of our league games before Xmas (easily).

He took an absolute kicking on here as the results and performances of the team were generally bawz and many of the chances he opened up resulted in nothing - that kind of criticism is par for the course with creative players.

A couple of better players around him, and a better system to play in, and i'm almost certain he'll once again be a great asset.

I now fully expected to get absolutely hounded for offering my opinion on why i like JF, but hopefully i've answered your question.

Using "creative player" to describe James Forrest :lmao:

BR is saying the right things. Before buying anybody new you need to salvage what you have. You can't buy 11 to 16 new players at the start.

There is a reason why Ronny is gone, in short he couldn't get the best out of his players. If he can't turn it around with BR he's done.

Jamesie Broonie, Mulgrew all coming good... is like three new signings!

Seriously the Sun article doesn't suggest to me there's a long term deal getting handed out. More like he's not been very good but at the moment we'll give him a chance.

Another thought... if he's out of contract in December then could he not be signed on a pre contact by someone at this stage? Can't imagine I'll see the queue of agents snaking down the Celtic Way.

Yeah, has a clean slate like the rest. Personally I'd bin anyone who had "downed tools" under Deila, if the rumours are true.

Rodgers mentioning his "aggressive style"

If we didn't have these early season qualifiers to navigate I think BR may take a slightly different stance with James and others .

I would chase him.

You wouldn't catch him.

Maybe not over ten yards but anything over ten yards and somethings gonna go ping.

Possibly meant aggressive direct running.... we have no one else like him in the squad imo.

GMS and Roberts are sand dancers. I think Forrests direct style could be More effective in the CL qualifiers..... Maybe.....

James Forrest has pace and an eye for goal (a rare thing with a lot of wide players).
His career has stalled due to injuries not lack of ability.
If he can stay fit he's potentially a huge asset for us.

Does he have any more of an eye for goal than Roberts or GMS?

Also not sure he has the pace anymore or at least he doesn't have the confidence in his body to use it.

Given his contract the amount we would get for him is minimal so no problem with BR having a good look at him first of all, he wouldn't be the first player who had lost his way only to be galvanised by a new manager.

Personally I'd rather try to her a wee bit of cash for him now and both the player and the club can move on.

Forrest will be doing well to climb out of Callum Paterson's back pocket in time for the qualifiers.

There is definitely a player in Forrest and if Rodgers thinks he can prize it out of him more often then he should go for it.

We know he's under performed but he's also shown what he is capable of.

I agree with you that there is a player in Forrest.
But it's one that gets injured every few games. It's happened too often to call it unlucky coincidence.

If BR has decided to give him a go then the slate is clean as far as I'm concerned. Think all of us will hold varying levels of doubt but we'll just need to wait and see what happens.

Get a good couple of runs in form a season from any winger and you're doing alright. Nobody's realistically looking for him to annihilate the opposition week on week or thru a whole campaign but he has game winning/changing capability which needs to be on display more often.

Not against BR giving him a chance and making him earn it but nothing should be on the table right now. He's done nothing for ages.

Is this not all just about him having 6 months left on his contract and BR saying he has 6th months to save his Celtic career?

Don't think it's any more than that.
