Can't believe we're arguing over who's better - Forrest or Gary MacKay-Steven! :ffs:

Whoever is better than the other, we are damning with faint praise.
That might be true.

But Forrest at the very least scored the winning goal in Champions League play off. Mackay-Steven would be in the dressing room crying like Theo Snelders. He couldn't even handle playing a game against a second tier team at Hampden.

Are people really using the goal against Karagandy to justify him staying?

Stokes actually made the goal and the consensus is 'see ya stokesy'

I would love to hear a coherent and justifiable summary of his performances since say 2012 that comes near to a new deal being deserved

It's all 'if he stays fit' - tried that - clearly injury free for longer last year - still pish

'If he can find his form' he's been looking the last 4 seasons

I do genuinely find the support he gets and the excuses made for him staggering

Stokes has had bigger 'moments' Commons has too - they can leave

Why is Forrest so special to some?

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Every Celtic player when asked on Celtic TV in the "Teammates" feature, who is the fastest player in the squad, say it's Forrest, so he obviously still has pace
Janko would destroy him in a race.

GMS took his chance when he came into the team and actually performed better than Forrest has done in years.
GMS? Aye?

He was pish all of last season. An utter embarrassment at parts. Forrest, whilst obviously no world beater, is ten times the player he is.
I never said he wasn't.

I said GMS came in and performed better than Forrest had. That is undeniable. There was a midweek game where GMS started much to the surprise of everyone and he was clearly MOTM. He went on a mini scoring spree after that.

Pish as he may be he contributed more to the side and played at a higher level than Forrest did.

I would chase him. I've watched him literally hide in games. Unforgivable. Would happily never see him in Hoops again.

GMS: 6 goals and 9 assists in 34 games.

Forrest: 2 goals and 3 assists in 33 games.

Both fairly pish but let's not kid ourselves, Forrest hasn't kicked his own arse in years.

Forrest is a far better football player than GMS, the fact it's even being discussed is mental.

Pretty happy he's had a U-turn, shows he must like the new manager and maybe it's the catalyst for him to finally live up to his potential - potential being the thing that people keep expecting from Scott Allan, and allowing him time to do so, even though he has achieved next to nothing as a pro footballer in comparison to Forrest.

During the CL qualifiers last year he was the only player offering a threat. After that he seemed to down tools (as did many others) as he realised Ronny was, sad to say, an amateur with big ideas and nothing else to back it up.

EDIT - i'm comparing him to Allan as they are the same age.

Aye.
I think Ronny took agin his Jamesie for some reason or another, and SPLOB immediately thought of the balance sheet.
He wouldn't be first oot the door for me, there's a squad load of filler needing ditched first.

Forrest is heavy, heavy pish. At least GMS can cut in or go to the byline. Forrest can only go to the byline, has no tricks, and isn't fast enough to beat any defender who weighs less than 16 stone.

Perhaps our manager has seen something he likes? Forrest is a talented player. Some respond to a change in manager.

Don't know for a fact, but him and about 15 others seemed to just lose interest once we'd been papped out of the CL - EL results and league performances for the entire season a clear indicator of that. Maybe it was more obvious to RD that this was the case with Forrest as he refused a new deal (most likely a result of RD being there if the new agreement is anything to go by), hence he was dropped from playing.

Are you suggesting we clear out the majority of the squad?

As much as i don't like the players attitude in behaving like that, I do think there was a widespread problem and malaise amongst the squad as a result of poor management and it was clear to see through the entirety of last season's performances. However, it did lead to a more reactive board and the appointment of BR.

For me, Forrest is a great asset if he finds form. And if BR has confidence that he can bring that to the fore then it'd be brilliant for us.

Two big IFs there, but i'm giving BR the benefit of the doubt until he gets beaten by a Scandinavian no mark in the CL qualifiers  :twitch:
