always think it's strange ho decent football people seem to rate players fans don't like. Strachan, Lennon and now Rodgers seem to rate Forrest, yet he is unpopular with most fans.
I know Forrest is frustrating as eff but in my opinion you have to be a bit daft if you can't see what managers see in him and players like him. He's got pace. He can go past a player. He can score goals. Not just against SPFL fodder but also in big games. I understand if fans are frustrated by Forrest because he hasn't turned out as good as they hoped or because his time at the club has been filled with inconsistent form or just his stupid mannerisms on the pitch but he is one of only a few players in the squad who could realistically play in a higher level league. Most fans seem to add his frustrating behaviour to his poor form and conclude he is a shampooe player. This isn't true.
That's funny.

Like eff could he play at a higher level.

Other than Karagandy I can't recall him scoring in a big game. Ajax was a penalty so I wouldn't count that as an example of his goalscoring ability in big games.
Agreed. If he could play at a higher level, he would be. We had no problem getting money for Ki, Wanyama, Forster and Van Dijk.

I wouldn't be against keeping him to see if an actual manager can get a performance out of him again but talk of a long term deal is ludicrous. Give him a deal with a break clause after a year so if he continues his shampoo form he can GTF.
Aye because it's been our managers fault he's been an empty jersey

Was he injured much last season? Don't seem to recall him being out injured for any lengthy period.

He was just bombed out by Ronny once he refused to sign. He was on the bench every few games. He brought him on as a sub in a home game not long after when we were chasing the game but don't think he featured after that much if at all.

Aye, blaming the manager is daft. Griffiths improved under him. Rogic improved. Bitton improved. Johansen improved (then got shampoo again). Even Brown had his best ever season under him.

The person to blame for Forrest not being up to it is Forrest.

 Just folk going on about him being injured all the time, suppose if you're not playing then you can't get injured anyway.

Yes. Forrest was the only player who regressed under Deila and is an outlier.

I'm not saying Forrest is blameless but the manager more or less froze him out last season. Players tend not to respond well to be dicked about by managers. And seeing Gary Mackay-Steven playing in your place.

He rejected a new deal and was seeing out his contract. He deserved to be frozen out.

GMS took his chance when he came into the team and actually performed better than Forrest has done in years.

there once was a player in there.
let's hope the manager's made the right call.
certainly, there are plenty of midfielders who should be shipped before (potentially) a decent wide man.
GMS's kit must be on a shoogly peg?

If he does sign a new deal and gets himself back to his best he can be an option. Might take some of the pressure off Roberts.

He's pish.

He wasn't pish 7 years ago when he had hunger, desire and pace.

All of those attributes have declined year on year to the point where he is, more often than not, an empty jersey. It would be a woeful decision to reward him with a new contract.

I'm not entirely convinced Deila knew what he was wanting from the wide players. There was alot of chopping and changing as well as playing guys out of position. If BR has a clear idea of what he wants from the players then it stands to reason that their performances will improve. I'm going to guess Forrest won't be given a dramatic payrise so it's not exactly a disaster if he signs a new deal

As long as it's a pay as you play deal, one where every game he gets he pays Celtic £10,000 then maybe... actually, no, forget it.

GMS? Aye?

He was pish all of last season. An utter embarrassment at parts. Forrest, whilst obviously no world beater, is ten times the player he is.

Can't believe we're arguing over who's better - Forrest or Gary MacKay-Steven! :ffs:

Whoever is better than the other, we are damning with faint praise.
