Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
It was strange on Thursday that he went with Forrest, who was just back from injury, to play in a position he wasn't familiar with in such a big game.
For me at least it tells me that Deila believes in what Forrest can bring to the team.

The good thing now is that we do have genuine options in Armstrong, GMS, Commons, Stokes and Henderson. Hopefully we can get rid of these niggling injuries that Forrest continually picks up once and for all.
If we do that then I firmly believe we will see the best out of Forrest.

I think he's a cracking wee player and the talk of cutting our losses is just silly. It was just 18 months or so ago there was talk of an 7 or £8 million bid from Spurs coming in for him.
I assume the idea behind Forrest coming on was that we were down to 10 men, he's fast, so let's bring him on to chase and harry defenders.

But he didn't do that, his heart wasn't in it.
His heart wasn't in it.

I see.

Amazing what some people are able to ascertain from watching a player on Tv.

Seems like two different things. Lenny pretty much always had Forrest straight back in the starting line up when fit, possibly to the player's detriment at times, RD hasn't, he only came off the bench on Thursday. I'm sure RD thinks he can do a job but at the moment he definitely seems to believe there are 3 or 4 who can do it better.
I think he will be used sparingly until the end of the season to see if we can build him up to a decent level of fitness ready for the new season
He should be, we will benefit from it in the long run.

He barely broke into a jog and failed miserably in closing people down.

It's hardly a leap to suggest his heart wasn't in it. Or are you just one of those uberfans who disagrees with any criticism of Celtic players?

I have always liked the wee fella and like many
before him wanted to see him do well and succeed.

Its been 3 years now since he emerged and although
there have been moments of brilliance there has been
far too many games were he has frustrated.

Inabilty to cross a ball when in a decent position always
rankles with me as does his powderpuff shots at goal.

Maybe im just more cynical as i get older but it just seems that
we have all been here before and the wee man isnt reaching the
potential we thought he could achieve.

Real shame.

Cheap as chips, massive upside. Stick.
If that is the case then I can understand us playing the waiting game with him. He has qualitiy and has shown that on occasion but I just feel we are always waiting on something clicking with Forrest and we've been waiting a long time now.

12 grand a week is a decent wage, especially for someone who doesn't ah half the time.

Fair enough. Argue semantics if you like.

But if I see a footballer making half hearted efforts to close players down and refuse to chase long balls, when he's clearly been put on to use his pace as an out ball, to me that's shows his heart isn't in it. Watch the build up to the Inter goal again, and compare his effort to his teammates who'd been on the pitch a whole lot longer.

Now I'm off to bed.

He has quality, no doubt about it ,

He has been totally crucified by injuries for the last two years as we all know, I feel sorry for him, its also affected his confidence and it looks like

he is scared to use that short burst of speed which was so effective in case the injury comes back,

Hope he gets a break and returns to the player he was !

Lads no harm to all of you--three good goals, one of which Forrest made out of nothing. But if you wanted a properly representative 'highlights' package of Forrest then you'd have to include the rest of his time failing to beat his man, huffing and puffing when played centrally, putting in shampooe crosses and generally giving the ball away cheaply. If he was doing what he did in that video on a consistent basis we'd have no complaints with him.

No doubt he has talent but he has been awful for too long now. Needs a move on loan or permanently.

That's not even remotely true.

GMS has done as much in his few starts as Forrest has since his hoops debut.

The amount of people that think James Forrest is a cracking player *when fit must have watched different games from me.

I can hardly remember any performances from him that made you genuinely excited.
Average at best, rotten or injured the rest of the time.
Really ?
Aye really.

Anyone fancy rhyming off the matches that James Forrest looked the superstar half the folks in here think he was/is/might be * when fit.

I think he had a run of about 2 games once when he looked exciting.
The end.

Adam Matthews has been out of sorts for a while after coming back from injury. Of late, he's had a run in the team and his pace and confidence appear to be back and he is coming back to the form we know he is capable of.

Forrest could do the same.
I agree, but the main reason Matthews is in the team is because of Lustig's injury. Forrest will need something similiar to happen, in a more sought after position, to get an extended run now.
A fit Forrest is a far better player than Gary Mackay-Steven.
Bollocks

I think Forrest has talent but he relies on pace a lot and that seems to be lacking since he came back, perhaps he is holding back, we are being very careful with him at the moment. He certainly isn't someone who should be written off, he has performed well before and can do again.

Having said that to say he is "far" better than GMS is a push based on what we have seem recently. If he is better at all there isn't much in it.
In their careers to date, Forrest has played well and more consistently at a higher level than GMS. Whether GMS can play a more crucial role in seasons to come is a possibility based on his appearances so far.

What bugs me about the debate is the amount of hyperbole and the enthusiasm with which some posters (not you, bp) trash a player who has made a significant contribution to Celtic's recent successes.

Too many on here equate criticism as heartless comments made by loudmouths using the internet for anonymous cheap shots. Plenty of them around, I'll grant you, but there are others who are clear thinking, and who can see for themselves when a players is no longer at the races, or who was never at the races. For me Forrest's time a Celtic is done and dusted, cherry picking one or three golden moments only serves to highlight this, not the opposite.

Forrest's time under Deila has been seriously hampered by injury. I'd like to see what Deila can do with Forrest when he has been given time to recover and whether he can start to play himself back into the team. Probably needs to be brought on slowly and build for next season but those wanting rid now are jumping the gun. Maybe he won't fulfil all the potential we hoped for but he's young enough to be afforded a bit more time to show what he can do under a new manager.

I still think he's got something to offer. He's very unlucky with injuries but yeah, his time might be up soon if he doesn't get over them
