Looked like he had potential when he broke through, injuries have not helped but it felt for the last three seasons that it was always a big season for him (same as Kayal) and he never really delivered on that.

On another note how many players are we going to let run down their contracts. If we are a selling club be consistent, that is Forrest, Mulgrew and Stokes running down their deals and not on crap weekly wage I would imagine.

If he goes, he goes.

But, he's 24 yrs old FFS - not lived up to the potential he showed when he first broke onto the scene, and for someone at that age to be lumbered with so many injuries is a real shame, but the way some are portraying him as a wage stealer, lazy, no heart, GTF, etc. is strange.

He's acheived and produced more in the game to date than either GMS or Allen, who are similar ages - and I still think he'll prove to be a better player than both.

Whether that's at Celtic or elsewhere, doesn't concern me though.

The team won't miss him.
Personally I think it's a motivation problem. Was at the Scotland v Poland game and Forrest had the Polish fullback on toast, the same player who routinely looks poor against SPL opposition.

Wouldn't have minded keeping him on a reasonable wage as a squad player and a different option off the bench, but seems he's made the decision for us all. I don't know that he'll be much missed. He'll probably continue the injury struggle elsewhere.

The anecdote told by (Keith Jackson?) on Shortbread tonight was interesting. Apparently trained the house down for Scotland, Strachan asked Brown if he was always like this, next day, Forrest was completely anonymous.

It's a shame - injury free, and focused, he's a very handy player, but seems like, more often than not, he's on the treatment table or not up for it. I think the near constant injuries haven't helped the mindset.

the worrying thing is, as someone else previously mentioned, that someone within Celtic thought he was worth a four year contract..also think he is one of a good few at Celtic who thinks he is a lot better than he actually is plus of course his agent will be fulling his head full of magic...wont be missed

See ya.

Never rated him, think i've given him praise in about two matches over the past year. Not that my praise is what he lives for but a four year deal rejected? Hope he makes it somewhere but it's been plain for a long time it won't be with Celtic.

I think its more a case of someone at celtic wanting to secure the asset and preserve sell on value. I don't think contract length is really an indicator of long term future at the club.

I just feel sad about this because I love to see players come through our own system rather than this constant gambling with low budget projects from abroad. He seemed for a while to have all the same tools as McGeady, but looks like he is going to end up as another Ross Wallace, who I believe is now with Sheffield Wednesday.

Ross Wallace met his potential. Forrest should've been more.

Thanks for the Shakhter Karagandy goal and good luck.

He needs a change of scene. Best for club and player.

Turning down a "generous contract offer" is a clear sign his agent is still alive. He is the type of player (the unrealised potential) that would temp clubs with the lower budgets in EPL or maybe one of the more ambitious ones in the Championship. Forrest is obviously a very talented player and really irritating to see that he doesn´t seem to do enough to flourish at Celtic. But would a replacement be needed? Elyounoussi is a name that springs to mind.
Will people please stop all this chat about him going to the EPL. He's nowhere near good enough for the EPL, I have doubts he would even make it in the English championship.

He's turned down a more than generous contract offer and will regret it in a few years. It's only going to be downhill for him when he leaves.
I guess you are the only one on this board that knows eh.
Only you can judge a player. How arrogant can you get ffs.

Can't believe we offered him a four year deal. He must play about fifteen games a season.

A pay as you play would be stretching it for me.

After hearing that James Forrest wants to find a new club, Gary Harkins tells him "I know one"
