Really find it strange how much abuse he is taking or even the level of criticism by some.
He has been out injured for a long time, and he is mentally and physically a yard short of the players he is up against.
Players take a while to recover from long term injury, Forrest hasn't played much football in the last year and will need time.

Izzy took a while before his form improved, Matthews is only just starting to look like his old self after a layoff,
Forrest is a skillful player, regarded, for example, by Scott Brown as easily the best player in the squad, but he has had a really bad time with injuries.

Some of the comments on here are pretty bad, considering the circumstances.
Does Broony really think Forrest is "easily" the best player in the squad?
Yes

I'm serious. People saying 'ah he's mince' or 'just not cutting it, twist' can not be defined as abuse.

http://kerrydalestreet.co.uk/single/?p=13450514&t=9225103
Maybe I have a higher tolerance for what is and isn't abuse, but I'd say that isn't really abusive.

If he had said "What that overrated coward needs is any club that is stupid enough to sign him, so we can be well rid of this effing carrot forever", then I'd agree

I stand by that. He's an imposter, he can eff off
Thats a good example of exactly the type of comment I don't understand.
I could hazard a guess at what you mean by imposter - that he has somehow managed to fool three managers into thinking he is a good player but really he isn't he is just doing an impersonation of one, but you are pretty certain he has deliberately deceived everyone except you so he can eff off.

He is a Celtic player, showed really good potential, highly regarded by many, been out injured for ages and struggling for form.
I am quite prepared to give him time, if it doesnt work out then too bad.

How do you end up with such an attitude towards a Celtic player. :ponder:

I could find it if you really don't believe me.

But it would be better if you either just accepted it, or you could believe its exactly the kind of lie I have been keeping for just such a thread and saw my chance to gain credibility on the internet with my false Brown / Forrest trump card.

It was on Celtic tv, not too long ago - He was asked a lot of questions, one of them was who is the most skillful player and he said emphatically Forrest, I think he also went on to say something about how he could do things with the ball that were special.

Why do you find it so difficult to believe?

I didn't say I didn't believe you, hen. I was genuinely curious to see the comments. No need to get your panties in a twist.

"Most skillful" doesn't necessarily mean "easily the best player in the squad" though, does it?

He's been a very good player for us since he broke through. He has had a terrible time with injuries which means we haven't seen a match sharp James Forrest in a long time. Shaun Maloney was written off in similar fashion before proving his critics wrong. Forrest hasn't become a bad player because of his injuries, he just needs a run of games to recapture his form. Deila has already shown how good he at developing players of a similar age to Forrest, Griffiths, Bitton and Matthews have been excellent the past few months, I have every confidence Ronnie can do the same with James Forrest.

"Far better than GMS", "best player in the team", "most skillful player in the team" and we don't miss him. The Deilabus is pulling away from the station and wee Jamesy's only gone and got himself shin splints trying to grab on to the back. Beep beep, see ye later pal! Thanks for the memories!

Not arguing; just correcting factual inaccuracies. :rocker:

No one in their right mind would think Forrest is "easily the best player in the squad".

'Most skillful' is a long way from 'best' - in fact, discounting Messi and possibly Ronaldo, I'm struggling to think of a team where the most skillful player would be regarded as the best player.

FFS - Its a tough crowd when the semantics society turn up to correct my factual inaccuracies - whatever they were

As a small part of a post I mentioned that Scott Brown rated him - to counter some of the nonsense on here.
I actually can't remember exactly what he said, I really don't care that much, it was just the fact that he is highly rated by his peers.

Semantics society.

You said that Brown said Forrest was "easily the best player in the squad" when, in fact, he didn't say that at all. It's not semantics to point that out.

Forrest was once a very good player and he might be again. There are currently serious and legitimate concerns over his fitness, application and attitude - that's what most of the "nonsense" on this thread has been about. That's all.

How the eff do you know what he said if you haven't seen the interview ?

In fact, I think he was asked who is the best player in the squad and he said : James Forrest

So in fact he did say that

He's the best attacking player at the club yet we've played the best football in about 4 years when he's been out of the side.

He's not been missed in the slightest since we got the two new boys in.

Don't get the negativity on here a lot have for him. He's had a crap two seasons with injuries but when he is fully fit he is direct, scores goals and can easily skin defenders. If he was fit he would be playing every week but for how long we can keep paying him when he isn't fit is another question. Lad must be peeved how things have been over the last two years. I hope he gets back soon.

Agreed on all this, but I am not sure hopes will be realized. He's got competition wide on the right and looks nowhere near as fast, direct, defender-skinning or goal hammering as he used to be. No idea whether it's a reversible condition or not, but I'd have GMS out wide right all day long over him as it stands, and even have Matthews there when (if) Lustig gets fit.
