I still maintain he is all about speed and not too much about skill and determination.
If he can't beat a player for pace then he goes missing.
His decision making is abysmal, and his shooting leaves a lot to be desired for a professional footballer.
He isn't the worst player we have, but he may well have one of the worst attitudes.
Still just gives up when he thinks he is fouled, and gives it the old outstretched arms.

If he goes, then he goes with thanks for the goals he has scored that meant something to the club.
He will not be difficult to replace though.

A stronger, more disciplined manager could maybe have got more out of him.
Or got rid of him sooner.

He's a kick and rush winger who has no pace anymore, so is utterly ineffective. He's done at any kind of decent level, and its been plain to see for a few years now.

Feel that he always promised more than he ultimately delivered.

Best for both parties

Sad the way it's turned out. Was one of my favourite players from 2010-2012 but he hasn't developed at all. In fact he has regressed. I re-watched the 2-0 Samaras game not long ago and he was a different player. 19 with barely a dozen games under his belt he showed more guts, desire and confidence to take a man on than we ever see now. Get the feeling nowadays he wishes his shorts had pockets.

Still think he could have a decent career down south playing with a new lease of life and more space than he gets for us.

Sad to see him go, but I think the sadness is more based on losing the player that he could have been, rather than the player he is.

Will always remember him fondly for his winner against Karagandy that got us into the group stages. :Bye:

Turning down an extension to his contract after all we have done for him. You couldn't mark his neck with a.... well anything really.

We should be delighted at this news.

Even entertaining the idea of giving him an extension was insane.

Thanks for err....and goodbye.

Quite alarming that we'd offer him another four years, given the last three have been useless. This is the best option for both parties.

He'll end up fighting relegation from the Championship then come back to Scotland.
Ross Wallace has carved out a pretty decent career in the Championship so I have no doubt Forrest could do the same.

Why do we let a player run down his contract like this? Surely the time to have sold him was summer 2014 or at worst last summer when we had already bought Mackay-Steven (another hit-or-miss winger)?

If he's lucky he'll end up in the Championship and we're not likely to hear much of him again.

It's a shame that Forrest failed to live up to his earlier promise. I guess injuries have taken their toll. Infinitely better than GMS when on song, and as direct a winger as we've had for years, but some will only remember the down side of his Celtic career. I hope he does well wherever he goes, as the time is right for him to move on.

Touch of the Phil O'Donnell about Forrest. O'Donnell had bags of talent but injury kept slowing his progression to a point where he never got near to fulfilling his potential. Forrest still only 24 so may yet achieve something but he's running out of time. If he can stay fit he would be an asset to most teams but therein lies the problem. I assume his new deal probably included milestones about number of games played etc to trigger bonuses.

he'll join the list of 'could have beens'.
Agree about the contract he's knocked back. It must have riders in it about playing games and I don't blame the club for introducing them either. He hasn't fulfilled the promise he'd shown and would have to accept that his new contract will reflect that. There are players at the club stealing a wage and to be fair Forrest isn't the worst but I think both he and his agent need a reality check as it's all going to be downhill if he leaves Celtic. He should have been doing all he could to prove himself worthy of a first team wage but his performances have not shown that. We've brought in players and have plenty cover so I get the feeling his days are numbered anyway.

Honestly got tired of waiting for him to achieve his potential , probably time for a move anyway. The fact that no-one's been in for him before says it all ...

He'll be paid more money in the English Championship - whether he earns though is a different matter. He's certainly not earned his wage over the last few years.

I don't believe he's got anyone to blame but himself for squandering a large chunk of his career.

Thing is that when Phil O'Donnell got a run of games, he showed what he could do. Of course then he would be injured again and back to square one.

But Forrest has for the most part been fit this season and has shown nothing. Like Ambrose, I think he is a player thats need a fresh start and a new challenge.

Absolutely delighted he'll go this summer, and find myself questioning why we offered him a deal at all. Unless in order to get some sort of development fee we have to show that we offered him a new deal. Not sure what the deal is there as he is 24 and will be 25 in July, so guess we will receive no such development fee for him.

I backed him a great deal these last few seasons when it was difficult to do so, purely based on the glimpses we'd seen of his pace and ability to finish (at times).

Now when fit, he has done next to nothing to convince anyone he should be in this side or squad in future.

Don't think that's down to a particular style of play, or any managerial issues. I just think we have found out that James is not good enough. He doesn't have enough in his game to be a relevant option, even in this Celtic squad.

All the best to him wherever he ends up, and perhaps being somewhere else will give him a new lease of life.
