RONNY DEILA is praying wide Bhoy James Forrest signs his bumper new contract at Celtic.

As SunSport exclusively revealed yesterday, the 24-year-old Scotland winger has finally held talks with Hoops chief executive Peter Lawwell.

Forrest’s agent flew to Glasgow on Friday, with Celts tabling a four-year extension to his current deal, which has a year to run.

Forrest will now take time to consider his future and weigh up his options. But boss Deila hopes he puts pen to paper.

He said: “We have talked with him and we want to keep him.

“Jamesie is a very good player, although I think he has a lot to improve on too.

“But we have talked to him and we will see if we can agree. I think he wants that. He loves Celtic and has been here for many years. He sees things are going in the right way.

“Now he can really practice and achieve his potential and you can’t do that with three games in and then out with injury again. You need consistency.

“Jamesie is a really professional player, but he has had to fight hard with his body. He has dealt with it and has had to work very hard off the pitch to do so. Now we can really work on the things on the pitch.

“We have put a lot of effort in with him and he has brought a lot to it as well.”

"He has trained for two months every session, I don't think now he is going to pull a muscle like he did for four years before that.

"We have worked a lot with him but now he can really get out his potential.

"No one can do that when you are in three games and out injured again. You need consistency.

"Jamesy has fought hard with his body, he has done a lot of hard work off the pitch and now we can really work on what happens on the pitch."

5k a week seems reasonable
Less that half of what he's on now.

Can see him accepting that right enough.

4 more years of running into defenders, throwing his arms out in a huff, flicking his stupid hair and injuries. Great.

Can't wait for him to be a promising 29 year old with bags of potential if he could just stay fit.
He's been here a long time. He is not a first team regular.

He is a fortunate individual to have been offered the length of contract he has been.

If I were him I'd bite Celtic's hand off.

Unless he can get twice the money elsewhere and performs the same way has has been for along time now.

Waste of a jersey. The vast majority of his Celtic career has been the waste of a jersey. The odd flash (on the pitch) of pace aside he has absolutely eff all else. That has gone now.

Over the years he has shown flashes (no pun intended) of brilliance but generally he has been average to poor and if he has not hit the heights by now, he never will

Just another example of whoever is making decisions, being completely out of odds with the fans.
Extending contacts for Commons, Stokes, Mulgrew. Signing Ciftci, knocking back offers for Ambrose & Johansen.
I feel these crazy decisions go back to the Fletcher window, were Lawwell made an arse of it & hasn't done much right thereafter.
Hope he rejects the offer, but should never have been given the chance to knock it back.
